Timef for me to get a new pocket TAC light and take advantage of new technology, but I'm not famiiar with all the new models and features.
Help me out with choices and experience with them.

Need something compact enough to carry comfortably in a pocket, bright enough to use for TAC light, handy enough to use for finding locks, like new led tech.
wondering about lithium batter cost/ life, dual power selection for extended use, light weight for constant carry?
What do I need to know to get out of the 20-year obsolete pocket light tech?

Thanks for any tips,
Rod

Not a "high dollar" light but I have been really pleased with mine. I have EDC it for 2 years. Best part is, (1) AA battery, no CR123!

Brinkmann Armor Max LED Flashlight that features a CREE X-Lamp X-PE High Power LED to produce a bright 60 lumen light. The shock-resistant flashlight is drop proof for durability and features a tail cap switch for a silent signal. The compact size offers ideal storage in a backpack, toolbox, emergency kit or glove box.

I got one of these at Lowes. It takes 3 AAA batteries, and in the two years I have had it I have replaced them once, just cause I didn't want them to die on me, not because they had. It was about $40 the are imported by Coast, there is also a 4 AAA variant that is brighter, but also bigger. The focus/flood ability is very nice. I have been happier with this light than with any other light, including the higher dollar Surefires.

Edited to add.....

Just read that Coast no longer imports these as of June, but that they are still available untill their supply runs out, so I don't know if Lowes still has them. Either way, you can find them for sale from other sources, and they are exceptional lights.

Well, I ordered the Brinkmann 1 AA Led light from Walmart.com, and as an afterthough also ordered a S&W logo 2 AA LED light on closeout for $29.
Just got the Fedex delivery.
The S&W logo light works fine, and will become a pack light.

The Brinkmann does not work at all. LED checks good, battery checks good. The switch in the tail cap is inop and there is no continuity through the ground strap from tail to front. A real POS.
Fortunately i can return ti to the nearest Walmart store for credit.

The Surefire E1L looks like it has all the features I want, even if pricey.

I hate to hear that. Mine has been great. I know a few other people who bought them after playing with mine, and really like it. Must have just got a lemon.

I carry an Olight M20 LED Cree, 340 lumens on high with strobe, it makes most others look like they are 1/2 dead. I have used it every night for 5 weeks so far on the same batteries and still going strong.

I carry my fenix PD30 every single day no matter what. Some think I'm crazy, but I make sure that they take a dose right in the pupils. I threw away the piece of **** fabric holster that comes with it and had David E make me a nice kytac flashlight holster.

I only buy Pelican lights, because of the unlimited lifetime warranty, pricing, quality, and reputation. All of their lights used to be intrinsically safe, which is super-awesome if you know what that means. They started making reasonably priced models that aren't intrinsically safe quite a while back, and they make a recoil LED light that is basically the best flashlight ever developed. I have one, and you can see it a mile away, runs on three C batteries for about two days of constant illumination.
They also have introduced lights modeled after weapon lights and tacticool crap, so that they can make more money by price-gouging the **** out of you, like Surefire and their ilk. Just in case you feel like overspending for no good reason. Although Pelican's price-gouging is about 1/2 that of everyone else.

FENIX PD-10, PD-20, or PD-30. Absolutely AMAZING lights for the price. I have them on my person, in my truck, and all over the house. Absolutely love them.
