I've noticed several guys listen to music, or maybe some self help hypnosis positive thinking tape, before a match, others just simply show up and shoot. Some guys are withdrawn before a match, getting in the 'zone' I guess. Others are talkative and look like they drank 14 cups of coffee.

What do you do to get 'pumped' before a match? What music do you listen to?

I usually try to eat a good breakfast, listen to the Taddy Porter album on my way to the range, and slam a 5 hour energy before walk through. Been thinking of changing it up. In high school the whole football team would play a Limp Bizkit song in the locker room before a game. I swear we played better.

I'm bored.

I like to start my match day ritual with a little bump, then I round up either two chickens or one goat for a little ritual sacrifice action. Then it's speed metal at high velocity all the way to the range. If I can get all the way there without having to talk to the cops, I'm good to go!

For people that are obsessive compulsive (like me, and probably others) clearing your mind is hard to do because we are always thinking about something even if it is not related to the match.

For example: You try to listen to music and it reminds you of a person from college and you wonder what they are doing now and then you think "wow, I wish I talked to them more often". Then you try to block that train of thought and you start thinking about that last stage that you screwed up and what you can do to correct that and then you wish you would have brought a different gun and so on...........

You know who you are.

However you can accomplish it, trying to get a blank mind is important to me (even though its difficult).

I wash my G34 in the dishwasher the night before to avoid any reliability problems and avoid stepping on any of the fault lines during the walk through, very bad luck. ;)

Surely there's someone on here that can top this. Like eating exactly 50 skittles, but only the red ones because the green ones make you miss etc........anyone?

Ritual sacrifice of livestock doesn't top stepping on fault lines???? Tough crowd...

I usually wonder if I should "warm-up" for the matches by shooting a bit before they start. In sports, people warm-up all the time by doing physical exercises and then drills.

Then I forget about it and start loading mags and planning how I will run the current stage.

I'm contemplating putting an excersise bike or bowflex machine on the 3 gun wagon to warm up with and get those jitters out.

When I get to the range, I randomly pick one bullet from my match ammo and eat it. I then get a handful of dirt from the range, put it in a small plastic container and carry it around in my match bag all day.

On the serious side....at big matches I dont really talk a whole lot. I try to avoid talking to anyone before I or they have shot the stage. Thats the time I'm spending running my stage plan through my head and someone else could be doing the same. I've met some cool people at matches, and if you want to go get a beer after the match I'm all in but its business time during the match. At local matches, its hard to avoid all the jaw jacking and elephant dung talking thats going on.

Depending on my mood I usually listen to so old metal from my high school days like Metallica or some feel good country music about drinking beer.
Once at the match I try to talk to guys like Airic as much as possible to get them off their game.

he got game? :s_laugh:

by far the best song to listen to is below... i don't know how you could not perform better after listening to it... in fact it should be the official BS song!!

Just make sure I have pinched off a growler before I start the day, don't want a turtle head when I hear that beep...

Pre match, I have never really done anything. The night before me and a buddy would sometimes have a reloading party while watching Band of Brothers or something and clening the guns. For me the biggest thing is just getting a clear mental picture of the stage right before the buzzer. I want to have the buzzer go off and feel like I am doing something I have already done many times before.

well...not stepping on a fault line just doesn't make a whole lotta sense to me :D

I'm an old ball player and it was a reference to one of the most common baseball superstitions/rituals....9 out of 10 won't step on a foul line. Terrible bad luck and surely the cause of an 0-4 day at the plate!!!! Logic says that it must be the same with fault lines and mikes! :D

Derek Jeter also wore a thong under his sliding shorts to break out of a slump, just in case some of you guys are in a serious shooting funk! :P
