I have probably seen his work before but it doesn't ring a bell. Those grips do though, hoping they will be in the stocking on the mantle this year and not the lump of coal I got last year.
Bob was a smith in San Francisco years ago. He had Bob Chows gun shop. He did great work.
No he generally stayed with the short guide rod and a lighter spring. I have four of his 1911's and they are all the same. From the looks of it he did some internals on that Mk IV. Has the spring guide been replaced with a full length guide rod?
At any rate, good looking piece!
Bob Chow was the first Chinese American to shoot in the Olympics, in 1948. He started his gun shop in San Francisco and operated it until the 1980's. He was a master gun smith and did exceptional work. He really known for his 1911 work, but I have some revolvers that he did also. He had built 1911's for people like Jeff Cooper of Gunsite fame. He also worked on high standards that were used in competition.Ive heard the name but I'm totally ignorant about his work. Please elaborate for dummies like me.
Thank you. It is a special piece. I bought it from a estate. That person was his manager, his daughter gave me a bunch of various documentation and some pictures of her dad and Bob hunting together.Thank you! That is a certain heirloom. Congrats on your ability to care for it.
