I shoot a service model XD 45 ACP in open class in USPSA matches (I run a ported barrel). I recently added Trijicon night sights, but come to find out, my group at 25 yards is about 8-10" low. I thought I could just aim head high on the distant targets and still shoot fast.....haha. Lots of no shoots and I'm pretty sure one of my worst matches ever.

I would like to buy some adjustable sights, probably fiber optic front. Not sure that I would like 3 fiber optic dots. I would really like to stay in the $100 range.

I:m currently run a Springer Precision Trigger Upgrade kit, but I'm not so happy the the reset. I would like to really reduce the reset.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Look at the replacement sights on www.dawsonprecision.com.

I sent my xd to Canyon Creek for a trigger job. Richard Dettel??? Just google canyon creek and you will find his website.

I installed the powder river competition trigger in my xd. It has a shorter reset and is pretty light. I also installed dawsons adjustable rear and fiber.optic front. It shoots pretty good. I used it in the Oklahoma limited/production championship and did fairly well for its first match.

I've attached some photos of my trigger. The first picture is of the trigger without any pressure applied. The second is the take-up/reset. The third is of the full manipulation of the trigger.

Thanks, I haven't seen that site before, thanks. So about how long is the reset on your XD now? Mine is probably a little longer than .25"

I'm pretty sure I'm going with the dawson adjustable set. What is the length of your reset if you don't mind me asking?

My suggestion would be to get a Glock or M&P. They aftermarket parts are much more readily available for those manufacturers. I started shooting USPSA with an XDM 9. I then bought a G34 and an M&P 9 pro to compare it with. The XD's tall slide flipped a lot more than the other two which is why I sold the XDM. At the time the M&P 5" was only available in a 9mm so I couldn't get a M&P .40 in 5" to match for limited division so I went with the Glock platform and a G34 & a G35.

If you are dedicated to making the XD into something then slap a set of Dawson Fiber optic from with adjustable rear on it.

Jesse, it is the first gun that I bought. So I don't think I will be switching to a Glock or M&P. If anything I would like to purchase a 5" slide, ported stormlake barrel, and some aftermarket guide rod/spring. That way I could load some 185 grainers for shooting the match. But springfield won't sell just the slide.

Looks like I will be using the Dawson Fiber optic with adjustable rear.

I think the xd is a pretty decency shooter. Esp with a aftermarket trigger and a decency.set of sights. My only real question is why open? My personal opinion a 45 xd would be a good limited or limited 10th gun. But that's just my opinion.

If you go to YouTube and search powder river xd trigger you can see how much shorter.the trigger is over factory. its not 1911 by any strech of the imaginations but it is much better than any factory plastic gun trigger.

If you want a 5 inch to use in production they have been going for about 425 in various online formats. Again just a thought.

Its probably silly, but I bought a ported barrel back in 09 to help cut down on the recoil. I don't have a USPSA number or anything, I just shoot to improve and because it is fun! The reason I want the 5" is for the longer sight radius. Maybe I will have to swap the stock barrel back in and play with it.

Somewhere on the internets is a vid of Steve Anderson shooting a bill drill in 1.5 something with an XD.

If you want a very nice trigger send the thing off to Canyon Creek or Springer Precision, they can also stick a nice set of sights on while it's there.

That was one of the other drawbacks of the XD guns. Springfield doesn't build them they just import them so parts and slides ate tough to come buy. If you want the ultimate XD do like GT says just send it off to one if the XD Smiths for all the trimmings.

I can't seem to find a video of the trigger job from canyon creek. I would like to see what the over all travel and reset were before I paid that kind of money.

It seems that

Yeah, I'm thinking it is going to happen in some form or another.

I just sent my xdm 45 off to springer for a trigger job (175.00) and a Patriot magwell you can use your stock mags with this one (75.00) and they said it would be 8 to 10 days should I get a stainlss steal guide rod also??? What would be the benefits of this

i installed it, it's pretty simple, not that much to fit.. their instructions are pretty complete.. If it isn't a billion degrees next month ill throw my XD-9 in my bag

Sounds like you are having some great upgrades done. I got a magwell from Pistol Gear, they work with stock mags too, but I went with AGP mag extensions now I have 17 round mags.

I'm not sure what a stainless guide rod would do for you. I know if it is heavier than the stock guide rod it will help reduce recoil.

Thanks for all the feed back, Chris

I think I am going to add the trigger with integral over travel stop and one of their striker safety levers to the springer precision kit that I already have on my XD. After playing with mine, I have realized a lot of the movement is in the take up and over travel. After that is taken care of it should be under an 1/4 of movement. I would do the whole kit, but I'm on a budget paying for my last 32 hours of school. I would still like to see your trigger on your XD if you do shoot next month. May have to switch later down the line.
