would i be shooting in open division...

if i have a 40-9 threaded conversion barrel in my glock 23? because of the threading, it is longer than the stock barrel. from what i gather in the rulebook, that would make me be in open division? would that be a bad idea for a first time shooter? should i just put the stock barrel back in and shoot 40? i dont have a lot of 40 and its more expensive is why i want to shoot 9.

Good question. I'm in the exact same boat and nobody has said anything to me at the local matches.

Well there's always one guy who does care and will be vocal about it. I have mixed emotions on issues like this. One one hand the rules is the rules (even if they make no sense...dot in magwell anyone?). Flipside, if your new..who gives a elephant dung. If you're new, no piece of gear wil give you a signifigant advantage. Shoot your first couple of matches with what you have, but save up the scratch for the proper legal equipment. This should be done before you are a member of USPSA, because in theory, you could be skewing the classifier system we all know and love/hate.

From the rulebook:

Authorized
modifications
â€¢Replacement barrels â€" provided they are the same length as original
factory standard.

I'd say it should be limited if the proper paperwork was submitted by the barrel manufacturer. LWD has made a ton of those.

Special conditions :
Any complete handgun or components with a minimum production of 500 units by a factory and available to the general public.

is that special condition for production? i dont remember seeing that, so i will have to go read again. thanks for finding that.

Correct, as long as the barrel is the same length as the original
factory standard.

(Appendix D2 article 21.)

So, shoot it in Production at local matches. But you owe a beer to anyone you beat.
Or, put the .40 barrel back in and shoot Production, or better yet, shoot L-10 and get major scoring without having a huge disadvantage in capacity etc.
Or, put on a comp and a dot and build an Open gun.
Or, wanna buy a G35?
