Is this still happening? What's the chances of a tactical operator line myself getting in the class?

I sent an email to the contact at Beretta and I am awaiting an answer.

I'm pulling for all you M-Series shooters to have your chance at being your own Mike Cyrwus. But I don't wish everyone to go bald and turn all ugly either, so it's a delicate line I'm stepping on. :)

Why is this restricted?

Most LE centered armorer's schools only let in active law enforcement and military. I'm not sure their exact reasonings but it's generally that way across the board.

Colt LE training would allow former military into their classes.

I'm sure if you wanted to attend and explained it to them then they would make an exception. You would be more than welcome if I had any say but I'm merely the messenger.

The general feeling is only L.E. can teach L.E. and when it comes to Armorers, this also carries over. There is also a tiny bit of Liability involved in all of this, as when an L.E. gun is used in the line of duty, you have to be able to say it was a certified class that the armorer had in order to disuade "gun" issues. Also most of these classes are held in Police Department buildings and they like to "know" who is coming.

I went through this whole thing in the 90s with H&K, as I used to teach the "Benelli" class on the M1. One day I had a class of 35 officers and one of them asked if I was L.E. I responded no and then he said how can you possibly teach this class, as you don't understand L.E. I smiled and said hey your right!, and walked out. Never gave another. Somethings just aren't worth fighting. KurtM

Total Jackass move on his part. He didn't know to whom he was talking. Sad thing is you could whip his ass with anything gun-related. He can probably write a ticket faster than you can, and that's it.

No, this is no idictment on any one or any entity, it meerly points out why regular guys aren't welcome. There is a very prevelent feeling in the L.E. community that only L.E. can teach L.E. and if you aren't they won't listen. I realised that no matter what I said or did that day they weren't going to listen.

It has nothing to do with "Gun Related" or being able to beat them at X,Y,Z. It has to do with L.E. vs. Non L.E. Great example of this is Bob Bonderant's School of High performance driving in the 80s and 90s No-one form L.E. would go there. So State Department sent some folks who took all sorts of classes, who in turn taught a bunch of Military guys who in turn went and taught Police. So they got the info 3 times removed, but only because it was military teaching it as Bob wasn't L.E.

BTW I am still trying to get hold of Hannu Yaronnin about Saiga parts and as soon as he responds I will let you know Taymore. KurtM

Funny, sad and unsurprising, because like most things, the training is better in the private sector.

I appreciate you doing that for me Kurt! On the issue of L.E. only listening to L.E.; I could be wrong, but I view that as a false sense of elitism on the officers' parts. The same attitude that makes them think that they should be able to open carry and we shouldn't, They get machineguns and we don't. They can carry on campus, but I can't.

I don't veiw it as "eliteism" at all. Their point is how can you possibly understand what i need without buckling on the belt and the big old sheild (target) everyday, and dealing with what they have to deal with. It is hard to divorce that thinking from single point training.

For instance when I teach firearms to L.E. I have to make a very big distinction between "weapons" handling and use in an L.E. setting. To them a weapon is a means to an end...ie compliance or stopping them from doing what they are doing that is wrong. To us it is accurate quick manipulation...that is our end point. It is all just a difference of veiw-point. Now I am not saying that there aren't arrogant L.E. or arrogant non-L.E. and there are all kinds but in general it isn't "eliteism"
