case feeder or bullet feeder

If you could only have one, which one would you chose? A case feeder or a bullet feeder? I'm leaning toward the bullet feeder. My observation is that the bullet feeder is smaller, a little quieter and a little cheaper than the case feeder. And it is a little easier to load a case into the shell plate by hand than to put a bullet onto a case mouth by hand. What yal think?

Hands down winner is case feeder. Because running the feed tube empty is such a pain and loading it up every 20 rounds is an even bigger pain.
Seating a bullet isn't difficult and I kind of prefer feeling if there is enough bell on the case. (I load a lot of lead bullets)

with which hand are you loading cases?

with which one are you loading bullets?

which hand are you operating the press?

There is no way ANYONE should get a bullet feeder unless you already have a case feeder.
Unless you dont care about efficiency; and in that case, dont get either. use a single stage press.

1+ this

I don't want to turn this into a Dillon vs. Hornady thing. I'm just asking for opinions. Okay, I have the Hornady LNL, I operate it with my right hand, feeding the cases and bullets both with my left hand on the left side of the press. That's why I though both the case or bullet feeder will be equally efficient. Maybe it is different with the Dillon presses. Also, how is a progressive without case/bullet feeder the same as a single stage press?

It is different with the Dillon presses, you load cases on the right, bullets on the left. And Mike is right, as usual. I just hate seating bullets, but that's me. I don't think anyone is insinuating that the progressive w/o case/bullet feeder is the same as a single stage. It's not.

Sonny's right.
If you use the bullet seater on the 5th station on a LnL, you will have to use your right hand for both cases and bullets.
In that case I would still get the case feeder; for three reasons, one- so you can control the bullet as it enters the seating die, two- so you can use the LnL specific case feeder, without trying to retrofit a non-hornady bullet feeder to feed bullets, and three, so you can get used to how a dillon operates, when you decide to get the best.

haha! :P

Thanks Mike for your explanations. I learned something new. Now I'm leaning toward the case feeder. Or maybe wait until I get the Dillon 650 then get case/bullet feeder :D

I have the L&L, and use the left hand for case, and bullet loading. I kind of have a system, and once getting into the rhythm, the rounds start falling like rain.
My wish would be to have a primer feeder that would handle more than 100. I have several tubes, but filling them takes longer than it takes to load the 100.

I went with the case feeder for my L-N-L, mainly b/c I like to visually inspect the powder charge. So placing the bullet as I inspect works pretty well.

get both.

that is what im going for. a dillon 650 with case loader and will probably add on a rcbs bullet loader.
