Firing pin stop / extractor

I picked this up a few weeks ago and talked to Bob at Nighthawk about some finishing cleanup. However, I wanted to test fire it first to check for functioning issues. It's having failures to extract the more rounds I put down range. I noticed I could turn the extractor in both directions by just a degree or two. The firing pin stop wasn't tight, but it wasn't overly loose either. I ordered a new over sized EGW firing pin stop, but should I replace the extractor as well? I'm no gunsmith, but the extractor claw looks good.

Original work that was done.

I think some of the smiths here will tell you that the loose extractor can "clock" and cause extraction issues.

Thanks. That's what I was guessing and figured the over sized firing pin stop would help. I then realized the groove in the firing pin itself could be already too deep. I tend to overthink stuff:(

I have fit exactly one extractor, and that was in a new Fusion 9mm where it quit extracting altogether. I re-tensioned the extractor and it worked fine, but decided to replace it. I bought a new Wilson BulletProof extractor. I think like $35. Filed/fit it till I could press fit it in, and it has run great ever since.

Remove the slide, and slip a bullet behind the extractor. The extractor should hold the bullet in place when you turn the slide upside down, and give it a mild shake. If it doesn't hold your bullet, remove the firing pin stop, pull the extractor partially out of it's hole and gently bend the extractor towards the slide. The extractor should be slightly arched. If the extractor holds the bullet as discribed above, fitting an oversized firing pin Stop will prevent the extractor from clocking. Best of luck brother!
