At Tuesday night's Board meeting, I received the go ahead for a Training Division range. As Construction Committee Chairman, I will be heading up the construction of this new range.  A lot of thought and member's special talents, such as Mike Hayton providing the aerial photography, Gary Clark providing architectural skills, Ryan Doudican and his surveying knowledge, have gone into the planning of this range.  I will be sending out requests for volunteers to help with the construction, such as clearing trees, running water lines, setting up for concrete, building an awning, etc.

The location of this range will be between the Silhouette Range and the Plinking Range.  The primary purpose of this range is for the Boy Scouts to have a place to shoot 22 rifles. The range will have paper targets (for merit badges), metal targets and clay targets to be shot with 22's.  The OKCGC has 18 Boy Scout Troops (approx. 600 boys) that attend the Club each year.  It is getting harder and harder to find a range open for them to shoot 22 rifles on.  They will have priority of this range, but it will be open to all members.

The construction of this range will be funded by the Training Division only.  The Training Division raises funds through OKCGC hat sales, shirt sales, raffles and donations.

I am excited about this new range and look forward to breaking ground soon!

Thanks,
Jack Arbogast

This is a very cool idea. I love to see our club doing stuff like this for the community (Scouts)
PS. I guess the they couldn't get in touch with the #1 surveyor (me) so they went with Ryan?

They probably realized that with your #1 surveyor status that you'd be busy & went with who they thought would be available.

Does anybody else think the scouts should come shoot our action rifle match with their .22's or maybe even our rimfire 3 gun?

Steel challenge maybe?

Rimfire 2-Gun, I think the Shotgun's may be a bit much for them. I'd offer up my pistol & rifle for them to shoot with.

I'd bring my Wife & Boys out to watch a boy scout match. I think it'd do alot for them to see some kids just a little bit bigger/older than them doing some action shooting.

That's awesome. My boy is about to turn 7 this summer and I have yet to get him into scouts. :021: shame on me. I guess I will be getting in touch with a local troop today and getting him signed up.

It would depend on the age of the boy scouts, and if they practice proper safety. I think it could possibly get their moral down, especially shooting against someone like you, I know some kids get upset if they don't win while playing any sport

Obviously they need to be safe. We are nit gonna send a bunch of cub scouts out to shoot 3 gun. But there is no reason a 12-18 year old can't do what we do and be safe. I was a boy scout. I would have pissed all over myself for an opportunity to shoot the stuff we shoot. Heck we never even got to shoot. I think the scouts teach young men character and about things like dealing with losing to adults.

I didn't know there were any boy scouts in that age group. The only ones I have ever seen, have been around 6-10

Are you kidding, Jesse would cut the little fellas a break & let them win. He's not that competetive. Oh wait, You mean JT? Yeah, nevermind.....

I still do, every stage :D

3 gun for scouts! I'm totally against it! all I ever got to do was shoot from a bench when I was in scouts so I totally am not going to let some goofy kid have more fun than I did :D

I'll bring my air rifle for the tykes - it's a break action with both a .177 and .22 barrel. That is all
