where can I get some dummy shells for loading practice I have seen some talk about them in the forums here but can remember what thread I say them in and am not having any luck searching them, anyone out there with a loader that has the time I am willing to pay for them. I just need some practice real bad and hot shells is not a alternative I am comfortable with.

Thanks

Talking about some shells with no primer, no shot, powder, wad, but crimped?

But don't use them to dry fire, only for feed/load training

now were talkin thanks spiff I guess searching dummy will not find dummies  and now if I can manage to order just those and not a ton of other crap as well I will be golden

maybe I took it wrong but this is the description on the web site

Does not have a primer, powder or shot charge.
Uses: Dry firing, Function testing, Practice drills.

Do not sound like they have shot in them to me.

Please correct me if I'm wrong

I mean no disrespect chris

thanks for the reply

The Brownells dummy rounds defiantly have shot in them and weigh the same as a loaded shot shell .

That's weird. These are what I use and they definately have shot in them. Feel just like real shells. Not quite sure why it says they don't.

Damn, that text on the side of the shell must cost alot to put there.

I have 50 shells that I use for practice. They are loaded from spent cases. They have a spent primer, shot & no powder. A member here was nice enough to load these up for me. When I was looking for some, Mike Pinto also extended the offer to make some for any of us that wants them. I'm sure you'd probably need to furnish the components, but that'd be a small, small fraction of the cost of these. Also, I'm told these shells don't last very long, maybe 100 cycles or so. Mine are holding up so far, but I don't practice as much as I'd like. You might give Pinto a shout & see if he can help you out (maybe throw a couple Cigars his way for his troubles).

my guess is it is just poor description by CTD I have ordered stuff from them in the past that was not as described on there site.

thanks for all the info my friends

now if only there were a place I could order up some speed for my reloading and shooting :D

I cast and load my own Slugs,, for 3 gun matches..

I loaded up 10 + practice shells,,,

using some corn cob,, a win wad,, and a 525 lyman slug,,, crimped them in nice and neat,,

Now I just have to,, make myself practice,,

I would like to have a box of dummy rounds for every caliber and every gauge out there to test actions after I do repairs on them.
What would be a fair price to pay a member here who reloads to make me some?

I would need same weight but with spent or no primer and no powder.
I have heard of other gunsmiths using silicon or delrin in the primer holes, I can do that.

Wow. I've been using mine forever, and I've got maybe one that's starting to look a little ragged. Those same 25 have hundreds of loads apiece on them.

I may have to try some of the brownells models if they are tougher.
