Hey everyone my name is Cody and I am in the final stages of starting the school's only gun club. We have decided to call it Student Firearms Association. By tomorrow we should be officially recognized. I am looking for students to join up. We are going to have our first shoot at the Lexington WMA range in the coming weeks. Anyone interested in the club can PM me for more information, a copy of our constitution, or feedback. Also anyone who is not an OU student and wants to give advice to our new organization can PM me for my Email. We hopefully will hook up with the Boomer Shooter guys to do some 3 gun comps in the future.

I wish there had been something like this while I was going to OU. Best of luck to you. After you get established you should contact some of the local ranges. They might be willing to support your organization.

I'm interested. Although I'm an OSU alum. I'll be living in Norman shortly and would like to help out any way I can.

Good on you. I'm a May 2010 grad and also willing to help, especially regarding the competition stuff.

See if you can work something out with Tri City Gun Club.

Jeremy you're going to love Norman!!

Same here Cody, I am in Norman as well, a very active competitor, and happy to help. When I was at OU a friend and I started the hockey club that eventually grew into what Sooner hockey is today. Hope you have similar success with this.

Welcome to Boomer Shooter!!!

I shot with a young guy that shot on the University of Missouri's skeet or trap team at last years FNH Midwest 3 gun match. That kid could shoot a shotgun! You should check into getting a 3 gun squad. Stephen PIneau who is a member here has a team for the university of north Texas.

I hope we hear more from you guys. Let us know how we can help.

Hey guys, I am working with Cody on the Student Firearms Association. We have set up a facebook page if anyone would like to join in and get updates. The link is

I think it's awesome what you guys are doing. If there would of been a shooting team or club when I would have went to college, I might have went just for that. I wish you good luck on getting a lot of members and showing others on campus that guns are not evil.

I just hit the Like button and added you to the BoomerShooter favorite pages.

Thanks Jesse, that should help us a bunch! We already have 4 likes from members from this forum. We are very excited about trying to get this running smoothly and hopefully we will be able to go out and do some range shoots and maybe some fundraising events. If we do we will certainly let you guys know. I know that we are planning on having some guest speakers come in when we get more members and start having regular meetings. If anyone is interested, would like to help, or has any ideas let me or Cody know in a pm or on the SFA facebook page and we will be more than happy to work something out! Again, this might not be anything we can accomplish withing the next few weeks, but it a definite plan for our future. Thanks for the support guys!

Count me in! I live to hear myself talk. I'd be down for a group speaker or a group shoot at Tri city or whatever you need help with to get your group off the ground.

Haha, well it would be good for some people with alot more experience to come in and talk, and I am sure that no one in our group would mind hearing you talk either! I will let you know when we get it all worked out. We also liked your page on Facebook and added you to our favorites. Hopefully we can get some cooperation going between us and organize some events. I do have a question for you though. Right now we arent really in the running for any competition shooting from lack of members that are able to participate, but we hope to do that in the near future. We would however, like to get in contact with some sponsors before that time comes and get a line of communication open with them. Any suggestions on how that would best be accomplished?

There are a couple of college guys out of Georgia that are a few years ahead of you on the same journey. They just got picked up by Spikes Tactical to shoot their rifles in 2011. Cameron Thompson is one of them and they call themselves the Atlanta Collegiate Competition Shooters. My advice is call some company's that you see out sponsoring competitive shooting and tell them who you are and sell them on supporting you. I'd start with the local companies such as H&H, big boys, JK Bullets, LOKI weapons systems, USSA, TDSA, etc.

Ok thanks for the tips! I am going to Sgt. Everetts tomorrow in Norman to shoot and I am going to talk to him. I was also thinking about going to the Academy in Norman and seeing about getting them on board, or at the very least seeing about getting some kind of line open. I am not necessarily trying to get donations of guns or any kind of serious equipment just yet, although that is our future goal if we can get a good team going, but stickers, hats, shirts etc might be nice and lend us some legitimacy when we go to ranges and things like that. I will have to check out the ones you talked about and see what they may or may not be interested in helping us with. We did talk to the NRA and they are sending us a packet to check out and we are planning on going from there.

I just hit your Facebook page.
I'll take three t-shirts with your logo on them, all XL size. I would like one in white, one gray and the third in Sooner red.

No.343,

We are working on getting some sponsors as well as OU to give us some funding. We are currently contacting local shops as well as some national organizations and reaching out. As such, we do not currently have any funds to produce T-Shirts but we hope to change that soon. We are planning on opening up an account where we will be able to accept donations and using that to fund T-Shirts, ammo purchases, range fees, advertising, etc. We will certainly let everyone here know when we have these things available, how to get them, and fundraising events as well as a way to submit donations when we get that running. Thanks for being so enthusiastic! I know that we are and are looking forward to getting our name out there as much as possible. We will keep you posted!

Court and Cody - take a look at the okcgunclub.org and see if any of the disciplines catch your group's eye. I know several of the heads of the different divisions and might be able to arrange some introductions and perhaps some clinics.

That sounds great, we have a few members who have not had any formal training and we are going to require them to take a class somewhere or obtain a hunter safety card before they can shoot with us. We really appreciate all the support from everyone here at boomer shooter.

Jesse,

I sent out emails to the companies you recommended to me. Hopefully they will be willing to help us out and provide some kind of support. Thanks for the help, you guys have given us so much support and some really great ideas. Like I said earlier, once we get some funding/donations going we will be able to provide more to you guys and all of our supporters. We will keep you updated as much as we can.

Good News Guys,

Red River Ammo got back in contact with us and are willing to support us. We are working out the details but our support base is growing! Also, Cody and I went and shot this morning at Sgt. Everetts range in Norman and are hoping to get him on board as well.
