Bald Eagle Nests off Avery Drive

Do not know if anyone is a bird or Eagle watcher, but between Sand Springs and Tulsa on Avery drive there are two Eagle nests on the river side of the road.

I have seen a couple of Bald Eagles in the area.

When I lived in Louisiana - I did oil field sales for Inland Barges - I flew in a Sea Plane 3-4 days a week. The swamps/coasts of Louisiana are full of Bald Eagles - they are truly magnificent in the wild.

I used to see them all the time when I lived in Arizona. Occasionally see them in western Oklahoma.

I took this pic at Terry's Taxidermy last year. It was a legal kill with an Indian permit. Actually putting my hands on its beak and talons is one of the neatest things I've done in quite a while.

We didn't not kill them. We are Potawatomi, and we had to apply for a permit. It took three years to be approved and then we were called by the Eagle Repository and asked what kind of Eagle we would like. I think mine died of old age......

That is more than cool, Wes. I really like that program that allows Native Americans to be able to display these great symbols of our country.

We have the eagle cam at Sooner Lake. I get to watch them every day actually hunting the ducks on the lake, and cruising the shorelines. Majestic birds.
Kaw Lake East of Ponca City has scheduled eagle tours where you can see several at one time at different viewing points around the lake.

A co-worker is a Fancy Dancer for the Ponca Tribe, and has a permit to use the feathers in his outfits he wears at Powwows.

We have the eagle cam at Sooner Lake.

I don't know if the Sooner Lake eagles are going to use the pole nest this year or not (according to the experts) But the nest at Vian, OK is active right now.

They came in and made the nest, but seem to have abandoned it. They are still hanging out in the cove but must have built a nest in a natural tree in the area.

When my brother lived in Florida, he took me on a river boat to see the alligators up close a personal, when I started seeing the eagles that was all I cared about seeing.

Had a bald eagle 30 yards overhead check out my decoy spread while hunting Sooner Lake on December 22nd. Then it and I'm guessing its mate flew south.

To my amazement I then had a golden eagle come check the spread. No ducks though....wonder why. Oh well, it was worth it.

Then I was scouting for ducks and geese in between there and Stillwater. I found a pair of bald eagles feeding by a pond about 15 miles south of the lake.

I told a friend about it and she wanted to go see if they were still there an hour and half later. We got there and found a golden eagle flying overhead. Must have been the same set of eagles.


Today I saw a golden eagle feeding in a field. I think I was north of Sooner Lake.

We drove the intake channel to the dam while at work Saturday. It was loaded with ducks. Maybe they move to the north side of the lake when they figure out the south side hurts?

I know your post is a joke, but actually, I'm pretty good friends with the Osage county Game Ranger. He got a call from somebody at Kaw Lake reporting somebody shooting at an eagle. He got to the area, saw a vehicle, and found two guys with a dead eagle on the ground with the breasts cut out. They didn't have a clue what they had just shot. It got real expensive, real quick.
