Talk me into going to my first match

DO IT! I used to say that all the time and thought it would be a bunch of people that shot professionally (or all the time) and I would just feel out of place. was I ever wrong. Since I started going to the Carry Gun match at Heartland Outdoors, my shooting confidence and overall gun handling skills have gone up considerably. Most of all, the people that compete in the matches are just regular 'ol people. Sure, most of them can out shoot me (pretty easy to do) but many are just there to practice shooting and gun handling in a setting other than standing still and poking holes in paper. Just regular people training and practicing a skill that might save their life someday. There are always first-time shooters there so you won't feel alone. And no one there acts like a "big deal" even though some of them actually are a big deal. In other words, if you have been putting it off because you are nervous or worried about how you will shoot or what someone might think about you: STOP WORRYING AND COME OUT!

Since I've never looked into or read what mag carriers are worth a damn. What is a good mag carrier for a Glock 17 mags? What should I look for in a good one? And does Heartland carry them in case I don't get some in by then.

I use both the CR Speed pouches and the BladeTech competition pouches. The CR Speed are shorter and provide less retention which subsequently makes them faster. I use the CR Speed for USPSA pistol matches. They are not legal in IDPA if I'm not mistaken. The BladeTech are taller and hold the mags more secure but ate slightly tougher to pull a mag out of so they are slower. I use these for IDPA and 3 gun. David E makes some good stuff too!!! If you need a pouch or two for the match I'm sure he could have them for you or I could borrow you some of mine or you could go by the elcheapo uncle mikes or phobus double pouches here locally at HH or heartland possibly or academy.

Or you can carry them in a back pocket

Are these what your talking about Jesse http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/sid=48220/pid=41583/Product/Glock_Double_Mag_Pouch Is this a fair price or is there somewhere cheaper to get them?

Those would work but they are NOT the ones I use. Those are similar to the Phobus, Uncle Mike's style. I am not a fan of the double pouches because they are big adn less versatile. When I fisrt started I had a couple uncle mikes and got rid of them.

I use these but I see they are out of stock.

If you are interested in trying them first I have 4 of them. I will bring you two to borrow during the match.

what time? what do i need? i kinda know where... kelly and danforth and a little north yes?

Here is the match announcement thread with all the info. http://www.boomershooter.com/forums/index.php?/topic/877-additional-carry-gun-match-heartland-outdoors-sunday-january-30th/

Be there at 5:30 to sign up and ensure you are one of the first 30 shooters.
The range in the East side of Kelly just North of Danforth. It is in the shopping center behind the Westlake Ace Hardware. It doesn't look like a gun range at all but it's in there. The fastest way in from I35 is to take Covell in. You avoid all the stop and go lights.
Cost is $20 unless your LE/MIL then it's only $10.

I emailed David E, and told him I wanted to reserve a spot, he said just make sure to be there no later than 5:30, also that he is not gonna be asking for a $10 deposit right now, but if more interest is shown, he might have people pay the $10 and then the rest at the time of the match

What all holsters are legal? I just got off the phone with a shooting buddy that was thinking about coming with me. He said the only holsters he has are a shoulder holster and a drop leg. I didn't figure that the drop leg would be. But I wasn't for sure about the shoulder holster.

The drop leg is preferred over the shoulder holster because you don't have to sweep anybody behind you.

for everyone that is nervous about the match, i live about 5 miles from heartland and if anyone wants there is an open invitation to meet at my house before the match and i will walk you through what will happen and what to expect... trust me just like most things, what you imagine in your mind is worse than what it really is..... but if ya'll want we can meet at my house and actually go through how to "make ready" and so forth.....and that goes for any heartland match (because IMO it is the best one for someone to start with..)
