Now that I have a lower on order in the group buy I will need a parts kit any recommendations?
In that case he should get a Spikes Lpk with a battle trigger.
I'd bet that most DIY rifles have DPMS LPK's in them.No Jesse it's not bad. I have an armalite lpk in my spikes gun and it's way better than my BCM lower with BCM lpk. (which may infact be a dpms lpk in my BCM, or so the interweb rumors say)
I'd bet that most DIY rifles have DPMS LPK's in them.
I wouldn't worry too much about the brand of LPK, I'd concentrate more on the lower itself (making sure everything is in spec) & the trigger. Who cares who makes the roll pins & detents? If the Lower & LPK are both in spec there shouldn't be any fit-up issues.
These are such newbur questions I'm almost embarrassed to ask them. How do you personally go about making sure everything is in spec? I guess I need to do some reading.
R u gonna shoot that rifle without a stock for $215?
I was gonna go the DPMS route since they are a major 3 gun sponsor and Internet rumor has them supplying a lot of parts to other boutique builders anyhow. elephant dung I don't even know what comes in a lower parts kit and what doesn't.
I agree. As long as it's from a major manufacturer you're going to be alright. No matter who you go with (unless it includes the JP trigger) you won't be happy with the trigger after running that JP rifle of yours. Like I said other than the trigger, your just talking about roll pins, detents, a couple buttons/levers & a few small springs. Who cares who made them as long as they fit. Chances are you wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyway.Just forget about all that elephant dung. Buy from a major manufacturer and you're aces. I've assembled several lowers and have had the least issues with the DPMS LPKs. On some of the other kits I've had to fit mag/bolt catches, had pins that were too tight, etc. DPMS is one of the cheaper brands, but the biggest difference between them the "high end" stuff is marketing.
Anyways, for my lower I'm buying the JP LPK with their outstanding single stage trigger for around $150. At the end of it, I'll have a $215 complete lower with an awesome trigger. Going to sit an 18" Nordic .22 upper on it and might build a limited upper at some point.
Both of my ARs are total frankenguns with cheap-ass DPMS/Bushy components and they both run like tops.
I've never bought the parts individually, but I think you'd probably be better off just buying a complete LPK. I think what Chambers was saying is that the LPK he used included the JP trigger. So if I want to install a JP trigger is it necessary to buy a complete LPK or should I go thru Brownells and just buy the mag release, bolt catch, and other parts that don't come with the JP trigger? Or is it just as cheap to buy a LPK rather than the parts individually?
Ditto with Chambers. You'll know if its out of spec when you start putting it together, then a call to the manufacturer will solve that problem.
Also my BCM came together from BCM, but the interwebz say they're DPMS lpk's because of the mag release buttons look the same as DPMS. All I now it the trigger F***ING BLOWS. I think they did that on purpose so I'd buy an expensive Giselle trigger from them.
