So I made it to Louisiana last night and started putting together one of the lowers that I got in the group buy. Well I just bought a DPMS LPK - nothing fancy because well I'm a cheap guy. Got the mag release on no problems - went to put the bolt catch on and either DPMS makes the bolt catch too wide or spikes makes the slot for the bolt catch not wide enough - needless to say it would not fit. Called Spikes first thing this morning - they said they have seen this before with DPMS LPK and are sending me out 2 bolt catches as well as the roll pins for them - PRIORITY MAIL and FREE. It is so great to find customer service as excellent as that of Spikes Tactical. I know where I am buying all my lowers from in the future.

I've had to fit small parts before, bolt catch included. That's cool of them to do that.

Maybe they are hoping you'll buy a $200 lower from them next election. :)

Exactly the reason I will never do business with them again. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that remembers this.

What's the problem with them being opportunistic capitalists?

Not a damn thing.

Supply and demand. Enough said.

It's not that simple.

The night of the election they doubled/tripled their prices and claimed it was a direct result of their suppliers, which was just not true. They are free to price their product however they want, but I don't like being misled.

Maybe it was their suppliers that was raising prices on them. I just know everyone was doing it. It's like Y2K people cause a panic, suppliers raise prices and make a killing, everyone figures out the panic was for nothing and get pissed at the suppliers.

I've seen AR around 620 brand new. Two years ago this would have been impossible. It wasn't spikes it was the whole gun industry. Ammo, primers, handguns, rifles everything

Other manufacturer's did not raise their prices like Spike's. There were slight increases across the industry, but not 200%. They lied and I'll leave it at that.

Kudos to them for their service.

I hear ya. Maybe they are trying to redeem themselves. I know I have no issue buying from them. ESP at $77 per lower.

There is a lot more to it than supply/demand and "opportunistic capitalists". It is a matter of integrity. The cost of materials did not rise over night. They merely took advantage of people in a panicked state. I tend to call these type of people predators. You can sugar coat it if you wish, but it doesn't matter how you dress up a turd, it still stinks.

As an example, what was wrong with gas stations doubling and tripling gas prices immediately following 9/11? What about the motels/hotels doubling their rates during last years snow and ice storm?

ETA: Fortunately, the Attorney General of the State of Oklahoma stepped in and forced these businesses to make right on their "opportunistic" (predatory) practices.

The Obama price jack up, and the fact that they cater to the budget atas guys (37mm flare launcher, colored in lettering, "infidel" type engraving, etc'.; means I dont even consider them as an option.

They were also pains in the ass when UPS lost a lower that they tried to ship to me.

semantics.

Indeed. Unfortunately Mike, there are some that only care about the price of something. The quality of the product and the integrity of the people behind that product mean nothing to them. It has been my experience that most of these people are under the age of 30. Does $10 really make a difference? Really?!? If so, perhaps a different sport/hobby might be in order. I will happily spend the extra money to deal with vendors that are honest, local and show integrity over those that are not.

Chambers' position on this is refreshing to me due to his age.

There are about 4 manufactures that forge most lowers out there. Spikes are forged by LAR the same company that produces Grizzly, Bushmaster (L Prefix), Ameetech, (?)DPMS, CMMG, Double Star, Fulton, Spike's Tactical, Noveske (new). So if you are saying spikes lowers are not quality. Then none of the above are as well.

Brandon, I could be wrong but I don't think Mitch is saying spikes is low quality, just low integrity. He simply said some don't care about the quality of the product or integrity of the company if they can save a few bucks. I'll let Mitch elaborate, but that's the way I read it.

Ahh gotcha. I read the lower quality part. Im not really biased because two years ago I wasn't buying lowers instead just built guns so I have no exp with the price gouging. Does it suck. Sure. But will I let that cause me, someone who it didn't affect two years ago, to spend 30 extra bucks. Not at all.

Tony, I see that "Reading is Fundamental" program I bought you for Christmas is already paying off!

Brandon, I never stated the lowers sold by Spikes Tactical were of low quality. I did state they were of low integrity. I was merely pointing out that there are people in this world that only care about price instead of using quality of product and/or the integrity of the business as a deciding factor.

It didn't affect me two years ago either. I saw their actions and decided they were not someone I wanted to do business with. Sometimes, even when something doesn't affect you directly, you stand for what is right. It's easy to say it didn't/doesn't affect me so I'll look the other way.
