I've been testing some Low recoil 00BK. 12 ga rds. for my 18" SD guns. Fed. Rem. Win., etc. Pump and a Mossburg 930 Thunder ranch semi- auto. The Fed and Rem were good recoil wise and acceptable tight pattern. But the one that really took first place with accuracy, tight pattern was the Winchester Elite Defender round. 00 Bk copper plated, 2 3/4" 9 pellet, @ 1145 fps. this is a great round. My favorite. BUT..............Also the MOST expensive. About $20 for a box of 10. But you won't be shooting clays with it. Meant for business. I like it and will have it on hand for the SHTF day or night. Maybe get a case if the Jackasses start giving out that FREE money again. :p Just some FYI for Patriot Buddys.

I've got a Remington 870 tactical that I picked up a while back. I still have not shot it, need to remedy that. I also picked up about 100 rounds of 00 buckshot from my local shop, just whatever they carried at the time. It's all one brand so I hope it functions well as that's the only buck shot I have on hand.

Try to locate some of the reduced recoil 00 online. Fed, Win, or Rm, or whom ever. The regular stuff 1300 fps+ is hard on your shoulder (pump) after a 1/2 hour of testing. I busted my collarbone years ago and it gets too me. Not much on a semi though. The reduced 00 bk you can shoot on and on. And it will still leave your assailant Swiss cheese. Your body will thank me. MAGA!

A few years ago I got some Federal 1 buck the controlled flight stuff. Not sure if you can find it anywhere now. I don't really wanna shoot it just in case shtf. Kinda ridiculous on my part I know, but if the time comes I have it.

I've got a buddy that reloads shotshells. I bought 00 buck copper plated shot and some Winchester 572 powder. He loaded 50 rds for me based on the 2 3/4 inch reduced recoil home defense ammo. It's great on the shoulder with my 870 and it's deadly stuff. Anyone armed with a 12 Guage with 00 buck is well prepared for any SD scenario.

All I have for my 12 bores, I just like OD things I guess LOL. I like to think about how lucky I am to live in a country where, I can get my teef drilled & filled
instead of like in many countries where you just lose your teef. Why? Because it hurts when you let someone drill your Teef!

So when I use this 00 buck in my Ithaca Mod 37 or the Remington Mod 1100. I like to think it's better to be on this side of the buckshot than on the other side. Still kicks like a mule.

I hand load #4 buck. They do well.

Copper plated shot is nice as the pellets deform less and improve patterns. Same with buffer. Gives them a little cushion. Have to be a bit careful with pressures using buffer though. We used to load up some wicked duck loads back in the day before steel.

I bought some LE trade in 12 ga Winchester frangible slugs (IIRC 350 gr) from AIM Surplus in December @ $25 for 25 rounds (2 boxes)...yeah I Know it's expensive @ a buck a round, but figgerd it'd do well by dumping its entire energy into a perp...also bought 1o boxes of Federal 'Flight Control' buck - same seller and LE trade in also. Bought Winchester LE trade in of .45 ACP frangible +P 175 gr from AIM also - boxes marked 'For LE' @ $29.95 for 50 rounds I've got close to 1600 or so of my own reloads - mostly 200 gr LWSC but had no 'defensive' ammo for my 1911s & Glocks

I never did either....didn't care. He really came out hard as an Obama supporter in 2008.
Ya...unfortunately in later life somehow he took a hard left. He was pushing the Obamacare debacle for awhile for the Obozo regime which was sad. That doesn't really erase the good memories from the Andy Griffith show but it does make one feel a bit sad that a person can make the decision to go so far off the rails in later life.

While I like #2 or #4 BUCK in a HD situation, when in doubt go with 00. That's what I'll usually suggest especially when someone new to shooting approaches on the range and we get to talking about shotguns..

I've found the tightest patterning are the Federal LE 00 buck--which is almost TOO tight. These have reasonable recoil also.

Even with a cylinder bore shotgun, the pattern spread at typical closer in house ranges really isn't all that much. Perhaps a large saucer or small dinner plate at most. Something to think about. You CAN miss.
