Been carrying my Colt every day of my life for 41 years, which DOES qualify myself as a "1911 Guy".
In the end what I got is one old 1911 that looks like it's been carried for 41 years.
When I see the collections here - I'M BLOWN AWAY!
Beautiful stuff Frankie.

The pics are in my New Fanatic Check-In post if you scroll down.
It's got allotta wear, & allotta work done to it, & I wouldn't part with it.
But that goes for all my stuff, I get attached.
I'd love to see your pics, however I cannot figure out how to get to your post...sooo I guess I won't be able to see it. I have a hard time making my way around things like this. Sorry.

There ya go, Lee.
My personal companion, who is about to get a well deserved summer off.
It's seen too many years of being at work in heat wave summer sweat.
I got a new set of the Pachmayer grips to go on it and a Wilson bullet-proof XS extractor to go in it and then I'll have time to test that it runs as flawless as it does now before I go back to carrying it next cold season

Thank you, I love it. I have a big rollmark 1991 that looks similar finish wise. I bought it used, so I havent used it like you has yours. Dang thing is not pretty, but it works fine and shoots way better than I can. Thank you for sharing. I appreciate it.

A sad but true story, Lee.
People say, "Why didn't you get a stainless one?"
THERE WERE NO STAINLESS ONES WHEN I BOUGHT THAT!
Metallurgy had not advanced to where they could make the stainless slide to frame action work without galling.
I think it was right after the dinosaurs died and just before electricity was invented.
Sorry ass sad but true story.

Actually, I like blue or Parkerizing better than stainless. Finish wear doesn't bother me at all, as long as the gun hasn't been totally abused.

Well, that was a comment more about how the years stack up rather than blue vs stainless.
It's like I bought my 1911 at the dawn of metallurgy.

I do remember when stainless guns first came out. I still remember the S&W 60 38special. I believe it was '65 or there about. That'd make me 12 at the time. I was amazed, and thought "What a cool thing! A rustles gun!" I also remember the first 1911's made of stainless, and the galling problems. I seem to remember that the first stainless guns had such hard steel, that it broke the tooling, so they had to adjust how much carbon steel was added. I could be wrong about that though, because as I age my memory tends to get a bit foggier. I'm open to any comments at all about what I've written. I don't want to spread any false stuff, there are enough folks doing that on purpose already. Speaking of metallurgy, I have a S&W k frame hand ejector made sometime between I believe 1915 and 1918. It is beautiful, looks like it was kept in some ones sock drawer. It does not have a heat treated cylinder, nor does my 32/20 Smith. I have shot the 38 with 158gr semi wadcutters, but not the 32/20 yet, can't find ammo for it unless I want to pay 100.00 a box for it, so the wait continues.

I don't know when stainless revolvers came out, but after I bought my Colt, I think Randall came out with a stainless 1911, and then my brother bought a stainless Colt Officers Model a couple years later. It was a series 80. So I could be wrong but I think the stainless Colts started in the 80 series.

I'm pretty sure you're right about the Colts. I looked on line, Randal said the only stainless 1911 fit for duty. I had a commander length one time. Jam-o-matic till I took it to the range one day, and shot it dry. after the 25th round it straightened out, and quit jamming. Go figure. I was not impressed, and in my younger days not real patient with stuff that didn't work right. It was gone soon after that. Was an accurate gun for sure. Someone told me the barrels were rifled differently? I stick to Colt and Springfield now. These days if they shoot ball where I aim it, I'm a happy camper. I have a Springfield that makes me look like a great shot! Older one made in Brazil. Best factory trigger ever! My Colts have been very reliable too. As I've said before I love 1911's and Hi Powers. Browning was a genius!
