Kuhnhausen books. And. When I became disabled from my real job at age 59, I enrolled in a local jr college gunsmith course. It was certainly not cheap, but I've always considered it the best gun money I ever spent. I learned a lot, and being assigned to the armory the final 6 months or so of my active duty Army hitch, I learned an awful lot from my SSgt in the armory. So I was ahead of the curve in jr college where recoil assemblies were flying across the shop. LOL. We had full access to the machine shop, finishing room. I learned a lot but now have many others detail questions I wish I had thought to ask .

I can't recommend a 1911 class from a skilled 1911 'smith enough. Marvel, Rodgers , CCP 1911 university ot check out your local jr college or trade center. I don't think you'd ever regret the investment

Great advice good training is the key to great workmanship.

Maybe we can get a TOOL LOANER THREAD here like we had over there going on here.
I used & loaned tools to members, & thought it worked out very well.

It's more important than ever today with more gun buyers than ever & Local Gun shops closing we must learn to repair our own firearms.
Training if you can, I net & books will be needed. So why not provide a place to provide parts trades for Family members only.

Not once did any of the Canadian forums offer a Family Membership that tells me a lot about support of members.

I also took some in-person gunsmith classes at a community college in NC and a State college in OK and they were fantastic. Wish I could take a full program but that's not in the cards. The courses gave me a basic understanding, basic skills and confidence to do a lot of stuff that I would never have tried otherwise. I would take classes every year, if I could.

twf, if I could afford it, I would take the classes again. Often a person doesn't know what they don't know. I would focus on different build aspects now. Glad you enjoyed your experience as much as I did
