Evey barrel must be fit to an individual 1911..though they do make "drop-in" barrels, which may "work", (function), but it will
not have best accuracy. I bought a new barrel for a Commander sized 9mm, needed a link & I thought it'd be good to go.Stopped in @ my gunsmith & asked if he had a link he could sell me, & described what I planned to do..( he ended up fitting the barrel to that pistol for me )

I had noticed some of his customers would purchase a brand new 1911, & then sent it to him to have a custom Kart barrel installed
, before even firing their new 1911. He told me, "they could save a lot of money by just paying me to properly fit the factory barrel,"
implying the factory barrel was capable of delivering accuracy comparable to the custom barrel, if it was fitted properly.

I took him up on this, & took him a Springfield 1911 that I'd had some work done,( sights, trigger, hard chrome finish)
and had him re-fit the factory barrel. He welded the barrel lugs in a couple of spots, changed the link ( longer ? shorter?- I don't remember )
& fit a tighter barrel bushing.. Needless to say,.. it WAS more accurate.

Decided to keep The existing bull barrel as after getting the Ruger SR11; the bull barrel works fine and decided to keep it and use it.
