Anyone wanting to drop some weight or get healthy? Struggling to get support in a moments of weakness?

Feel free to ask questions, post struggles or questions here.

No one is going to take the time to make sure you are healthy like you are.

I'll post more after this, but figured I would start this to help others just as much as I struggle with this type of stuff.

I've spent the last 16 months working on my diet and working out again. I'm 52 lbs lighter than when I started. Stopping the sugar binges was the hardest obstacle to overcome, but I did it.

I'm happy to lend a hand with advice or suggestions for anyone needing it.

Great thread idea

I have tried some diets and then stopped. the sugar jones and "need for fresh bread is addicting beyond words.

I am now using Dr Gundrys suppliments and reading his diet evolution book. I feel better. still trying to eat less processed sugar and bread ( flour).

just a note though. when on the keto diet, I was OFF processed sugar and ate fruit that summer. lost about 20 lbs. I am facing my demon and I am losing the battle(mostly because the fruit we get now sucks-no taste at all) still f ighting the good fight. lost 10 lbs so far on Gundrys plan and take far less meds for pain( tylenol and aspirin are down. almost no NSAI meds either. far less pain. I think I am a good candidate because I definitely had leaking gut syndrome

Giving up sugar is a difficult task, and staying away from it as it's everywhere, especially when you're trying to avoid it.

I've decided that I either was going to lose the weight through hard work, or have a bariatric surgery which is basically a 500-1000 calorie diet for the next few years of your life as your stomach and so forth are rerouted.

As much as I love cheeseburgers, I enjoy being around a little more.

There are various protein bars available to get the sugar fix. They may be loaded with fiber and sugar alcohols, which cause serious gas, but the trade off is good. They are my go-to dessert. I've also found solace in salad dressings, specifically thousand island. I dip pork rinds or celery in that for a quick sugar fix.

Sugar and carb cravings can be alleviated through a gradual decrease in intake, eating low glycemic index foods in smaller portions. Sweet potatoes (loaded with butter and cinnamon of course), enriched long grain rice (boiled and not the microwave kind), fat free yogurt, etc. Limiting carbs to 100 grams a day as a start will help tremendously. Maintaining 50 per day is a good balance.

Exercise can only help, even if it's just a brisk 30 minute walk a day. We can all spare 30 minutes walking the neighborhood each day.

I had some serious GI issues for YEARS( starte d with a bad gi flu in1996) was getting horribly sick on: most oils, soft cheeses, pasta and a few other items. Tried everything to fix it..including prayers and I was ok from 2015 through 2018 ..then it came back with a vengeance. Really hard to live to eat when it is killing you to. It is truly a miracle I am alive. a testimony to how tough our bodie s are--honestly.

I tried the keto diet(modified by eliminating most foods that made me ill and trying to eat better choices( veggies, nuts, fruit)). Then I happened to see an ad for Dr gundrys diet on (of all things) a page from American Rifleman. So far, using his supplements and trying to stick to that modified keto diet( I allow myself a bit of processed sugar as ice cream(small amount) or baked goods(my mrs is an excellent baker)). and I am MUCH better. it may not be for everyone. The book explains our evolution and how our diet has changed for the worse over many years. it is an interesting read so far.

I hate diets. I prefer just to change my eating habit slowly .

BTW--have you ever noticed the nutrisystem ads.. what are they pushing? "eat what you want and lose weight" BS LOOK at the portion size. That really hit me this year. Portion control, exercise and better choices are the way to live longer and feel better IMHO

The number one thing I think anyone can do is cut any and all soft drinks. Don't drink any calories or fake sugar etc.

so hard to do. so far in " diet evolution", he states that even artificial sweetener triggers our body t o think it is fall and causes us to store sugars as fat...interesting.Of course he promotes avoiding salty food and anything sweet. this is going to be the ultimate challenge for me
