Modern AR cheek to stock weld and sight picture

I am an aspiring 3 gunner but the most recent serious rifle training I have had was while I was still in the military. For years and as far as I know currently the US Army is training soldiers to set up on the rifle/carbine with their nose on the charging handle. While this is great for long range shooting with the AR family it is a little ackward with short range engagements. Also watching 3 Gun Nation it seems just about everyone has a different postioning. Is the current school of thought changing on this or is this just the foundation that everyone starts with and slowing develops their own style?

I like the tell people to get the gun low enough in your shoulder the the buffer tube points straight into your shoulder, not over the top of it. Do that, and tuck your elbows nice and tight and youll lock the gun in tight enough that that sucker wont move when you drop the hammer. Once I started doing that my follow up shots in CQB type stuff were a lot faster.

I was taught recently to keep your nose on the charging handle as well. Helps ensure you're consistent in your aim. This is probably going to be one of those which ever works best for you things though...

Whatever is comfortable. I run nose to charging handle. Others do it differently.

If you check out Horners rifle setup he uses that funky custom stock and real high rings and shoots very heads up. Much like you shoot a pistol.

I focus on relaxing everything including my grip so I don't add tension into my trigger finger. I grip the gun very loosely cause that's how KurtM taught me to shoot. Watch the sights Rise and fall and squeeze the trigger when they are where u need them.
