What division for new 3-gunners

I agree Kurt but if you are using an A2 it is awful tough getting those 200-300 yds shots, especially with old eyes.
 
Well DonC I don't really know about "old eyes", I do know that my mom says I am real good with the iron sights on my airsoft gun and someday when I turn 15 I am going to get a real BB gun. I hope someday to shoot 3-gun as all you guys make it sound real fun. Do you think we will be allowed to have an AR when I turn 18? What kind of gun is an A2? it must have a real short barrel to not be able to see the sights, kind of like on my L85 A1 airsoft rifle, they are sooo close together that it is hard to see the front if youy look at the rear and the rear if you see the front. How many bullets would an A2 hold, I got to get on the web and do a bunch of surfing! How old do you have to be to join the Marine Corps. I figure if we can't own rifles like this when I get old enough, I can join up and be able to use them while I am in, and drink beer too, I can't wait to get old eyes and shoot real guns and drink beer!

Are you older than Jesse? He seems real old to me and he can't shoot irons either, maybe it is the water in Oklahoma that does that to "old guys", thats why when I get old enough I am going to drink only beer, or maybe some whiskey like my Uncle does when he,s not in jail. Will I still be able to own a gun if My Uncle and Father have been in the joint? I sure hope so, or I'm going to have to spend a lot of time in the Corps.

Ddin't mean it harsh at all I was laughing the whole time I typed it. I am only a scant 2 years younger than you....and I still shoot irons regularly even out past 300 yards
 
I witnessed him destroy some larue's at about 380, 365, and 360 with about a 30ish mph cross wind at Vegas earlier this year. The old bull trotted and got them all
 
I tried & couldn't see well enough. Inside 100 was fine but out past that & I was screwed.
I'm going to look into Lasik next year.
 
U just gotta line up fuzzy on fuzzy and squeeze it softly.

Shooting irons isn't hard either. I'm building an iron sighted .308.
 
Only thing hard about shooting Irons is how hard the other gun gets when you start beating all those fancy optics!
 
Lots of tricks I've learned from a certain person on this site about iron sights! one day when he grows up I bet I drink a beer or two with him lol I came from the LR world and iron sights had no place in that game BUT I'm learning you can really hit stuff with that little circle thingy and pin dodad out there on the barrel. I've got one of the Tac30 optics on a rifle that I plan on using to just hunt with as I'm not really timed but who knows might take it out and play on day but granted there are shots out to 300 your shooting at a 10" plate and belive it or not it's not that bad just take your time and know where your rifle hits.

Something you might try is next time your out ask a few folks to shoot their rifles, most of us don't mind and it'll give you a much better idea of what might be right for you. Later,

I have a frankenAR with a vintage upper (teardrop FA and everything!) so I'm stuck with a carry handle.

HOWEVER, included with it was a rail that bolts on to the top of the carry handle, along with a NCStar red dot. I can mount an optic on it but I have to take my head off the stock to be able to use it.

So tell me which is worse: shooting A1 irons in Tac Irons or shooting Tac Optics with a scope that is mounted on top of the carry handle.
 
I would say it is worse to shoot a scope that is too high, but the real question is can you shoot the irons that are on it?. If you can't you might have to go the scope route.
 
I shot a scope on top of a charging handle just once and that was all I needed. Order a skinny front sight for that bad boy and rock those irons like a boss!

After some more thought, I think I will try and get better with irons before moving to Tac Optics. Would there be any benefit to a thinner FS post, as opposed to a standard mil spec front sight width?

I hold POA/POI not 6 oclock. Those 150+ yd targets seem to get covered up with the standard FS post.

Yeah. I think Kurt and Trapr take their front post down to .030" ish. I believe Kurt uses a 300 yd zero. I imagine he'll be along at some point and you can get it straight from the horse's mouth.
