Online renewal for OK SDA permit | UPDATE

If I can't do my driver's license that way, it doesn't seem like a process would be put in place to renew my SDA license that way. You need to lobby for both. In fact, you're our new lobbyist, Burk. Good luck.

Technically speaking, you have to have a picture and a signature for your renewal form, notary signature too?, I can't remember, so I don't think online would be possible without the camera and ability to scan a signature. but maybe.

I thought there was some training cert or liscense for passportphotos anyway.

I know nothing about the training/certification for the photographers, just that there aren't very many places you can get a passport photo, and I think the notaries stamps have to be original on the form, so I don't know how that would all work with a scanner and electronic imaging. I know you can do signatures electronically based on the encryption of the file that is transmitted, but I don't think the government will ever accept a digitally produced picture and signature for us and the notary, for the License.

Actually now that im thinking about it I believe its a certain kind of camera you have to use. I remember talking to the Photographer the day I got mine.

I think both of you have been sniffing that photo developing stuff. There isn't a requirement for the kind of camera your picture has to be taken with

But there is a specific size for the pic.
Walgreens do passport photo's every day.
For a CCL photo, you can't be wearing glasses. Don't ask me how I know this.

Write your representatives in the state legislature about online CCL renewal.

They'll probably be so thrilled that someone even knows who their representative is that they'll put the gears in motion.

Well, I should have done this first but I called my representative (Jason Murphey) and he told me some things about this issue

The Oklahoma State Government Modernization Act of 2009 required each agency under the Executive Branch that issues licenses or permits to make application and renewal capabilities accessible through the State Web site by July 1, 2010.

However, some agencies can apply for exemption from this Act.

He thinks that OSBI may have applied for exemption for the SDA license. I will call the Office of Management and Enterprise Services tomorrow and report back when I get an answer.

UPDATE I talked to the Office of Management and Enterprise Services (OMES) and found out that OSBI filed for exemption from the requirement set forth in the Modernization Act. I understand why the original application couldn't be done online, but since fingerprint cards aren't required for the renewal, it should be simple enough.

Who wants to call their Representative of Senator and ask them about getting the renewals online?

From the renewal application:

RENEWALS (OTHER THAN INSTRUCTORS) ARE NOT REQUIRED TO SUBMIT FINGERPRINT CARDS AND MAY SUBMIT THE COMPLETED APPLICATION, PHOTOS AND FEE TO THE OSBI DIRECTLY.

Apparently, the State of Utah has online renewal. If you click on "applying online" in the article, on the right hand side it states
a digital passport quality photo is required, etc.
It seems like just about everything that can be done via snail mail can also be done online as well these days.

The article states: "Gary Sackett with the Gun Violence Prevention Center of Utah said the website is concerning because the system which he says uses databases that are not very robust or reliable to check the background of people looking to carry a weapon." I would be interested in knowing what databases they use & just how the system works in processing renewals.

I saw that article also. I don't really think that guy knows what he is talking about when he said

"the system which he says uses databases that are not very robust or reliable to check the background of people looking to carry a weapon."

Besides, that doesn't have anything to do with it being online vs. non-online. But what should I expect from "Gun Violence Prevention Center"

I agree.

I don't understand why they would file for exemption, other than, "we have been doing it this way since Burk discovered fire, & we don't want to change now." A "certain" county in OK refuses to update the payroll system to include an option for direct deposit for that very reason.

Staying on topic..."Who wants to call their Representative of Senator and ask them about getting the renewals online?"

I "stickied" this post so you can find your representatives

That information is outdated. It puts me in OK Senate district 33, but my address has been in district 35 since redistricting last year.

You may have to check here to see what your actual district is.

E: Also, the House lines were redrawn and the new boundaries take effect after the November elections! Check here to see what your new House district will be.

I sure love gerrymandering.

Thanks Mr. Giggle (I still wish I knew your damn real name). I added your link to that thread as well

Anyway, Jason Murphey sent me the following message this afternoon:

We are planing to advance a bill to require year-to-year reevaluation of the exemptions. This would force them to justify the need for the continued exemption. Last year we won approval for this bill in the House but it died in the Senate. We need to make sure it passes this time around

Thanks Mr. Giggle (I still wish I knew your damn real name).

I'll see you at a match at some point. The poopmobile is pretty easy to spot.

I think that House elections this year are being conducted according to the new district lines, so people should look up what district they're in anyways so they know who they're voting for.

Update Rep Rtize from the Tulsa area will be introducing the bill in a couple weeks to require all state agencies who have claimed an exemption to the Modernization Act be reevaluated each year and will have to prove why they feel they should be exempt

As soon as I hear what the bill number is, I will let you know
