Single Stack division in OKC...

Hey guys...I was wondering how the single stack scene was in/around the metro...I've been wanting to get into comp. shooting for a long time now and can never seem to get the funds together at the right time...unfortunately I don't have any production division pistols anymore that arent 45's and just can't convince my personal banker (aka they wife) I need to drop a few G's with Mike for a 2011 so I was thinking I have plenty of 1911's laying around that would work with minimum mods (magwell, maybe some Bomars or comparable sights, possibly have Mike lighten the trigger a little more, ect...). So really even if I bought all new holster/mag holders AND kinda "comp'd" out one of my existing guns I'd be out, what, few hundred ...

Is there enough action in Single Stack around here?...

Thoughts, suggestions, ect would be greatly appreciated...

Unfotunately, No. I shot SS at Double Tap and Area 4 last year and there was less than 25 shooters at each of those major matches. I am hoping that we have a single stack section match here this year so we can all dust ours off and shoot against each other.

I'm actually pretty stoked - at the Alabama Setional this year - there are already 29 SS shooters signed up - with 80 match slots left - Gonna be a good SS match - but for the most part SS is sparce

The local USPSA matches usually only draw 5-10 shooters out of 50-100. 10% is a good guess. The Heartland match has a division called Low Capacity which is mostly 1911 and other single stack mag guns.

Well elephant dung...kinda what I figured...

So give me some details on the low cap division...

Any other ideas...unfortunately I have several that would be great for IDPA but as far as I can tell that's also a no-go in the Metro...Hell I'd love to shoot my AI carry 1911 in CDP, except that its not an all steel gun and would hate to run 1000s of rounds thru her...not to mention the lack of IDPA (not even touching the fact that I think several of IDPAs rule are obtuse )

So, where does that leave me?...what about L-10??

Apparently you will be building me a 2011 soon...but I was also informed she's stealing my carry gun...what bullshit huh!?! So Mikey you feel like building a limited/carry 2011??? Might be an interesting balancing act...

I have 1 of these, it's badass.
I just slap on the magwell when I want to shoot it in a match & remove it for carrying.
It only takes about a minute.

While the SS Division has fairly light participation, it's still a fantastic Division.
SS Nationals are in May, and the skinny guns bloom in the springtime.
Around here (and OKC) you'll see guys shooting SS to prepare for Nationals.
And not just any guys, but some of the best Single Stack shooters in the world.
Its not unusual to get your butt kicked by Phil (perennial contender for the championship)
Or compete alongside Eric (regularly top 10 at Nat'ls) or Greg Martin, or for that matter Kelly, Cyrwus, Anderson...lots of awesome SS'ers around here.

As I floated off to bed last night, I thought of the caspian hi capacity frames I had ordered. Perfect double duty gun. slip off magwell,
in 40sw, 18+1 with mag basepads, 14 rd flush fit. Very slim grip, and best of all, metal frame.

Hmmm...I'll have to think about that. I have a few things in mind...kind of a more SVI styled 2011...small magwell...full length dust cover...possibly a hybrid/sight tracker barrel...some tasteful slide lightening...some small touches...we just need to get together. I've got 2 or 3 1911s I need to drop off with you anyway...a couple with just some small things and 1 that needs a semi build done. Lemme know an evening that you're not too busy and I'll come out and we can bounce some ideas back and forth...
