My brother just called from OKCGC, where he went to shoot benchrest with Andrei, and said there was a gigantic fire raging and at least seven fire trucks working the fire.

A fire broke out today (12/31) about 11:30 am on the bench rest range and quickly spread northward with the high winds. A number of fire fighting units from Edmond brought the blaze down after about 1.5 h of work, but were still on the scene when I left at 1:30 pm. I observed this while on skeet range. The fire apparently started on the 100 yd berm. No infrastructure was damaged to my knowledge.

Let's all be careful and use some common sense while shooting, especially when the threat of fire is high.

Yeah those are the photos I took. Saw large smoke clouds on the way in through Arcadia. Figured it was someone doing a controlled burn. We show up to the range, and its a blazing inferno. Maybe 10-12 people were there so Andrei and I jumped out and started stamping it out. The wind was spreading it so fast. There wasn't any damage done. The brush to the right of the BR range is where it started according to Mike Nelson.

this is the time of year for it.

We had a grass fire last year...New Years Day. Burned up 25 acres or so. Clean fence line and a long gravel drive slowed it down before it got to the house.

Most of OK and Logan County rural areas could use a "controlled burn" or better fences and a few hogs and goats turned out. Way too much tinder on the ground.

I thought for a minute OKCGC got out of the stone age and got a facebook page setup.

Not a chance, those guys probably don't have computers much less know what Facebook is.

I know John bent dies all the web stuff and he is pretty good at it. Unfortunately nobody wants to take me up on using the forum for instantaneous updates in stuff. I even offered to start an okcgc Facebook so it could be used for real TIme announcements like match cancellations or hey there is a fire on the benchrest range and it's closed today. But he said I would need approval from somewhere and it sounded like that might take an act of congress to get done.

Almost makes me want to get on the board.

Last intel was some one smoking while posting or retrieving targets at the 100 yd berm flicked the butt over the berm and it took off after a few minutes went by.. WE GOT LUCKY! As to the face book page a simple request to appear at the monthly board meeting and presenting that idea might obtain the desired results! Its the first tuesday evening every month but May.

A most know, creating a Facebook page is the easy part. Keeping it updated is the hard part. Otherwise it isn't a useful tool.

Future ideas being proposed are expanding the Benchrest range and moving/updating the plinking range.
