Here's my situation: I've been stuck working weekends on day shift since early last year, which made the opportunity to shoot any matches a rarity at best. However there is a shread of hope this year in that I'm on a later shift, which starts at 2pm.

Work is <15min from USSA, so I'm trying to decide if it would be feasible or worthwhile to go shoot what I can of a match before work and then high tail it to the time clock even if I get a DNF on the last stage or whatever.

So, what would boomer shooter do? Save your ammo and hope for a better tomorrow, or shoot what you can even if it means not finishing?

Id shoot 1st on stage one and then jump to the next squad immediately. You can likely shoot the entire match then.

How would the MD now if you jumped squads?
if it is prohibited, then one would hope that the competitor has the moral stature to follow the rules

Somebody does it at almost every match I have ever attended. Someone always shows up late or has to leave early. I have never heard or seen a rule against it. it is usually just common courtesy much like resetting targets rather than picking up brass.

It depends largely on your motivations for shooting a match in the first place; if you're doing it for the fun, shoot whatever stages you can shoot. f you're doing it to build or maintain skill, shoot whatever stages you can shoot. If you're shooting matches to validate your existence and you use standings in a match to measure yourself as a man, shoot only the qualifier matches and work on becoming a paper GM.

Yeah I would certainly make sure any squad jumping or other arrangements were all kosher. Definitely don't want to be "that guy" making more work for everyone in order to fit my schedule.

I just need some trigger time and an excuse to roll out in my contingency jersey. Worst case scenario I get to shoot some stages instead of no stages.

Side note: do we still get contingency points with a DNF?

I left last weekend at OKCGC, I only had one stage left but, it's not another squads fault I had elephant dung come up I had a blast and had no problem grabbing a DNF and slipping down the score. It's not like its going to crush my professional shooting career. That being said there were a couple guys shoot through. I'm ok with that too. I try to set the time aside to shoot unforeseen circumstances come up. If I knew I didn't have the time I wouldn't shoot. Just my .02 though

Squad jumping to the second squad might be a viable option but, as everyone else said, make sure the MD and the RO know what is going on. If you think it is going to be something that you try to do every match, make sure you sit down with the MD and explain your situation completely. Likely he will be understanding but communication is key.

On a related note. If you shoot through one squad and leave immediately after you are through shooting all the other stages, that means you also aren't going to help tear down and clean up. That could be a problem after a few matches of everyone seeing you load your stuff and haul ass while they are working

That is a good question. Never thought about it. We have given points to DQ'd shooters. Brandon will have to answer this one

I'd feel like a d-bag running out on tear down every time and would try to make up for it by doing set up help. I've got no problem helping how I can. I guess USSA always has steel challenge bays set up so there's not much clean up to skip out on there...my other guns would get lonely only shooting steel though.

If I can get a doctors note written for "chronic match deprivation" I'll just burn sick time. Can Dr. Poopgiggle do that? I mean the internet says he's a doctor...
