I was going to turn this into a 400 Whelen, plus I have a soft spot for the M1917, but me needs have changed so now it's for sale.

I have fired it at the range and it's good to go, no excessive headspace, bore is old and a little crusty but has nice sharp lands and clean crown, I was able to hold easy minute of Whitetail off the bench, even at 200 yards, using the Redfield peep sight.

Positives:
1. Floorplate has already been straigtened, and they did a nice job. You can see some of the difference in the finish at the front action screw where the FP was welded, but the work is clean.
2. Follower is beveled nicely to allow closing the action without manually holding it down.
3. Front sight (Lyman) is nicely done and in good shape.
4. Redfield peep is strong, screw is a little buggered but it functions 100% and holds zero.

negatives:
1. Stock work, while it fits me perfectly and seems to be plenty strong, is UGLY.
2. Bluing is worn as you would expect.
3. Duck pond has not been filled in the rear bridge.

All in all, it's a nice old relic of a bygone era. It would make a fine "truck gun" as is, and still outlive you. OR, you could pick up where I left off (due to funding more than anything...) and have a smith turn it into a one-of-a-kind custom big bore.

I only want $325 cash FTF in Charleston, or $350 to ship it to your FFL (CONUS). The action alone ought to be worth that! Seriously, it's a bargain at that price. Not looking for any trades, need the cash for other stuff in the works.

Post an "I'll take it" to hold it, and thanks for your time!
