Wildlife photography

My wife has taken an interest in wildlife photography. A picture of a black bear is one of her goals. Do any of you know areas near Oklahoma City (within a four hour drive) with a high probability of finding a bear? Thanks in advance.

I'll say it first. The zoo. She wants a wild one.

There are some around table rock lake in Missouri.

Might try state parks in Latimer, Le Flore, McCurtain and Pushmataha counties. These are all in Southeast Oklahoma and are the 4 counties in Oklahoma that have a good bear population. Contact the game wardens in those areas as well. They might be able to point you in the right direction.

Good suggestion. Nuisance bears will be hanging around the parks.

Btw my wife is a budding photographer as well. She got some pics of 2 bucks fighting behind the house today. I'll get them posted.

I will say this, a lot of professional photographers take pics of animals in zoos and nature parks, and make tons of money if it can be made to look like its outdoors.

This fight went on for about 10 minutes. My wife was shooting through glass, and it wouldn't focus right.

It's pretty nice having all the critters around. I could live without the gophers and armadillos though.

Armodillo Chili is good, even the wife likes it. I haven't tried gopher. Hell you have a buffet out there.

I'll bet I could fill a drum with gopher carcasses. I get a couple per week when it gets warmer and they become active.

Well since I hijacked the thread talking about food, I figured I would post some pictures from my Inlaws Cabin in Gatlinburg. No problem finding Black Bears here in my neck of the woods. Pictures aren't that clear taken by my wife on her phone camera.

Those are kind of small and hard to see, but I think that is what my wife would like to see.

That's all I have right now my wife sent them to me from her phone. When I get home I'll see if I can find some better pictures to post. I have a picture of a big guy at my feeder some where but it's off a trail camera at night.

Raptor's dinner becomes it's captor.

Did you guys know that my wife and I were on Animal Planet's show Untamed and Uncut? The episode is Surprise Attacks 2010. When we were hunting in Zimbabwe we came across a Lizard Buzzard that was in a predicament with a snake. Apparently the small raptor missed when trying to get its dinner and the snake got the upper hand. Andrine shot the video.

Our PH released both the snake and bird with no ill effects.

To go along with your theme, there was a biologist with us in Alaska last July. He said the greatest killer of bald eagles in Alaska was salmon.
The prey was too big for the raptor, and they can't disengage their talons. They drown.
