The "Palmetto Posse" is hosting a Wild Bunch Action Shooting match at the Mid Carolina Rifle Club in Columbia on Saturday, January 31, 2015.

If you have been able thus far to avoid my prior posts about WBAS, I will just say in short that WBAS is a multi-gun match that was inspired by the movie "The Wild Bunch". I like to call it Three Gun, circa 1913. The required guns are a .45 caliber 1911, a cowboy pistol caliber rifle and a 12 gauge pump (Winchester '97 or Model 12).

All steel targets, with some reactive targets. Love shooting that steel.

We shoot these stages in pistol bays and while there is movement it is not as athletically demanding as Modern Three Gun.

I mentioned this match in one of my topics about Greenville cowboy and Wild Bunch events but thought I would post again in case someone from the Midlands or the coast might not have seen it.

There is more info on the Palmetto Posse home page.

Thanks Crunchy, been looking at Model 12's just for the heck of it.
Got some .32 bullets coming for the Marlin. :-)

If I make it to the match I will be a guest and probably have more time to take photos and videos.

Many folks consider the Model 12 to be preferable to the '97 as a Wild Bunch shotgun. Certainly lots more servicable guns out there; it's getting hard to find a shootable '97 at a decent price, and then once you get then they do tend to break down occasionally. The advantage of the '97 is that it's legal for cowboy action and for WBAS, whereas the Model 12 is Wild Bunch only.

Dave, the Marlin in .32 can be a very good cowboy action rifle. Prices on all "JM" Marlins has been high and the .32s appear to bring a premium. Occasionally a .32 will find its way into my .38 brass; I'll save 'em for you!

Thank you Sir. I can always use brass. I have an original 97 with the 30" full choke barrel. Don't want to cut it and haven't found another barrel to cut yet. Model 12's I've looked at have been tight but cosmetically challenged and very cut worthy for a faster handling shotgun.

I need to crank out another box of shotshells and maybe clean my 1911 tonight and I will be ready for the Columbia match tomorrow.

Who's with me? Don't everyone reply at once.

I'm grateful to our friends in Columbia for making more opportunities to shoot Wild Bunch in SC. Being able to shoot on Saturday is a real plus.

A good turnout today; 21 shooters including two new first time cowboy/Wild Bunch shooters from Aiken. We had two or three other spectators; one even helped pick up brass which was much appreciated.

I posted two videos in the "Videos from Upstate Cowboy Matches" (or whatever I called it) thread.

I had a pretty good match; I finished third and was the only "clean" shooter of the match, which means no misses and no procedural penalties. Counting the three bonus clay targets I believe we shot 199 targets today. You get a lot of shooting for your money in Wild Bunch!

The Palmetto Posse has its regular monthly cowboy match next Saturday.
