I am in the process of buying a new leupold scope and was wondering your opinions.

Should I get the VX3 4.5-14x50mm 30mm side focus with illuminated Boone and Crockett reticle

Or VX6 3-18x50mm 40mm side focus with illuminated Boone and Crockett reticle

40mm......the bigger the better, it'll gather more light

I had the 4.5-14x56mm ordered and they sent a email back that said we are changing our lineup in 2016 so that order cannot be filled. Please place another on 1-1-2016.
:(:: no more 56mm objective. Oh well will just have to stick with the 50mm.

Question is VX6 3-18 or VX3 4.5-14? Both will be 50mm. Will I really be able to tell the difference in glass clarity? One is 400$$ more which I don't mind, but 90% of the time will be long/close range hunting and the other 10% will be at the range seeing how far out I can really shoot.

Geez Feegee that's quite a bit of coin for the difference. I have a few Zeiss scopes they're pretty spends but, you can tell a difference in the HD5 glass and the non HD5 glass on their line. In low light conditions their "HD5" glass is well worth the money. Is there any store local that has the two optics in stock i.e. Cabelas, Bass Pro or H&H?

Also the higher magnification is nice but I have a 2-10x on my .35 Whelen and I shoot it to 800 and can easily smack a 1/3 IPSC silhouette easily all day. I wish I would have had the 5-25 but 10x magnification plenty for hunting.

Good idea I will go see who has them both and look. The reason I am going with leupold is because I got a really really good gift card.

I have a VX2 only favorite bolt gun. It's an older setup but for some reason I just love it. Winchester Featherweight XTR in .30-06. It's very portable and works well on about everything. I used to use Leopold religiously until I got my hands on a Zeiss now I have 2 brands of optic in my safe.
