What do you call it when the range is not HOT?

I was at Boggy Head yesterday (Sunday) ....

The range was not HOT but I wanted to make sure...
I didn't want to shout "Is the range HOT" incase someone just heard range HOT.

I asked if the range was still COLD, is that correct, sounded strange...

I think you were correct in asking/stating "range cold" or "we're cold".

Did you see anyone there shooting full auto stuff? Say a FN FNC and Mac10.

Yes I did, my friend David conversed with while I was working on his FAL (failure to feed), Yugo AK (light primer indentation) and Beretta 92 (squib bullet in barrel, locked extraction)..Dave has not shot those guns since he moved from Oregon 6 months ago.... :lol:. I fixed his friend's pistol too that had a round stuck in the chamber...

Also worked on my Mosin sticky bolt.....still work to do...

On military firing lines, when the range goes "hot", that means it is open and rounds can be fired whenever the range safety gives the OK. When a "cease fire" is called, that is a temporary halt in live fire. When the range is "cold", that means it's closed for the day and no more rounds can be fired. Either way, as long as everyone understands the command, it doesn't matter on a public range.

Nope that was my buddy DDSII and a couple of his friends from work. He tried to talk me into going but I had a really lousy weekend as a result of some terrible news I received.

everytime i have been there, that is what is asked...."are we cold"..."are we hot"...so i just go with the flow..as long as we all understand..maybe signs need to be posted stating the correct way to verify the state of the firing lanes?????
