I need a little help. Can anyone I.D. this ammo? I think it's mil surp M1 Garand stuff I bought years back, I just re-discovered a case of it in my ammo shack yesterday. It could also be old Mauser ammo? I can't tell from the packaging. If you recognize it, jump in and let me know. I just had CMP re-barrel my M1, and have been gathering all of my old military surplus ammo so the Grandkids can start shooting a "real riffle". I figure that if they can lift it, they can shoot it.
Thanks for any help.

I'm just here for learning. Wait until MikeA1 comes around. He can probably ID this ammo.

Good call, I'm leaning toward M1 Garand, but the 7.62 isn't normally associated with 30.06, or at least I don't think it is. I've been wrong many times on ammo calibers and their numerical tags.

Well, I think I can actually help with that. 7.62 is .30 caliber, so those should be 30.06 ammo. 30.06 is 7.62 X 63mm.

From what I know the 7.62x63mm was loaded by everyone of our allies during WWII, I have seen these in 8 round En Bloc clips made for the M1 at swap meets.
What year is the head stamp? Since it's French or one their company's, I would assume it's Corrosive & use hot soapy water & remove the gas plug to clean it all out before using a petroleum based bore cleaner or WD40.

Corrosive ammo last way longer then noncorrosive ammo, you just need to get the salt out of your internals.

Sorry, just got back from a round of doctor appointments, and, drum roll, the heart specialist that did my surgery, gave me a full release. weight restrictions stay until mid December, but other that that, I'm a free man. He was in awe of my recovery.
So, about the ammo, after comparing them to other it is a case of surplus, M1 Garand ammo, as for the markings, I'm told that the original 7.62 was for 30.06, remember, this was 1949, and in Europe, so who knows.
