Well, I finally gave in and we are getting a pool. They are supposed to start in about 10 days and they say it will take 6-7 weeks. I'm betting we don't swim til mid July. I know how these things go. Anyway, I am actually pretty excited about it. I really like the design we ended up going with.

We've had a pool for about 12 years now, and I enjoy every aspect of it, other that opening it up for the summer, or closing it up for the winter. Other than that its almost maintenance free.

Nothing better than coming home from a day at work in the heat, and getting a cold refreshing adult drink and letting the days problems float away. ;)

I get paid to take care of a pool. After doing it for as long as I have, I don't think I would ever buy one. Happy for you though, it's easier to maintain private ones than public. If you can, look into saltwater instead of chlorine.

We are doing saltwater and an in-floor cleaning system. Also, we are planning on keeping it open year round. Hopefully the maintenance side of things will be to a minimum.

6-7 weeks? That is gonna be a badass pool! Ours took like 2-3 weeks. I'd lik to hear more about the self cleaning floor deal. My pool sweep is expensive and seems to like to break a lot.

We use the Polaris cleaner with external pump. It does a great job keeping all of the debris off the bottom. We currently use an automatic chlorine dispenser, but that salt water system is sure looking interesting

Hah! I'll pull mine out of the garage have it set up in an afternoon! Saltwater and all.

The built in cleaning system is a series of nozzles that are built into the floor. Peridoically they pop up and spray high pressure water around in a circle, sweeping all the debris off and into a bottom drain. It doesn't make it maintenance free but it comes pretty close.

All the gunnite pool places told us 6-8 weeks.

That is the first time I've heard of that type of pool cleaning system. it must just suspend it, for the bottom drain to take it in? Are leaves a problem in your area? We are covered in trees, living in the sticks, so our bottom drain would be plugged up.
We catch the majority of leaves, and grass clippings with a little skimmer deal. I don't know what to call it, but we got it from one of the online pool places, "in the swim". Its like a paddle thats adjustable with no drilling, etc, that goes into the skimmer. It extends out into the pool about a foot, and directs all of the surface debris into the skimmer. Its a life saver and cheap.
You may have all of that covered with your pool though.

Oh yeah, I fought my wife for a couple of years on the pool thing, but she agreed to take care of ALL of the maintenance.
That didn't last long

We have one ...and if I had my way... I'd fire the loader up and fill it in this Saturday.

I watch my electric bill go up about a 1/3 to filter the thing... and keeping the dirt and twigs out is a full time job out here in the country.
