Many years ago the headquarters and museum were located on the 2nd floor of the old Penneys Department Store on King St. in downtown Chas.......Company B, 1st, Battalion 30th/118th Infantry, used several floors in the back of the building as an armoury...Our NCO club had a room there also.
I did 7 years in the Army National Guard there......They moved Company B, to the Heywood Dr. armoury and the WLI moved elsewhere...............That museum was fantastic..They had the actual rifles that the Citadel Cadets carried when they fired on Fort Sumpter...They had many of the Revolutionary War rifles used by the WLI during the Battle for Independence.......A lot of other war related artifacts..........
If I am wrong on some of this please correct me as it has been many years since I was a member of both.....Some day I may try to find what happened to all that wonderful stuff....Maybe one of you might have been a member also.
Ha!! I found it on Meeting St.......Google it.
