Spent the better part of the first year I've been shooting buying parts. Finally got enough parts to build it. I don't think I did to bad for literally learning everything I know about 1911/2011's from this project. Just got it back from getting atranited. Pretty happy so far, got a few things I wanna change, but hey you don't know what you will or won't like until you try it.

I heard all the horror stories, and was expecting it to be a lot more complex to make it run, but so far so good. Now to finish all the final polishing... and begin the never ending process of swapping parts till I find exactly what I'm looking for.

How much did all the parts run you? What was your total amount of time invested?

I don't really even know how much time. It took some time, because I didn't know what the hell I was doing. I could prolly build one in half the time now. Money wise, prolly around the same price as an edge. But I didn't want just a stock gun, and I love making stuff... and didn't have the extra grand to have one built. Im hooked now. I've already started gathering parts for the next one.

That's my 40 edge I got in the middle of this project. I did use that to help get a better visualization of the way some of the pieces interact together. Unfortunately, that's about all I could get out of it. This one is a 9mm sight tracker style, so not much of it crossed over.

looks like you gouged your slide with the safety :-[

otherwise looks cool (minus the stippling which looks crude but im sure its effective!)

if it cycles and shoots i say its a winner! I love sight tracker barrels

Let's see some of your stippling work? Do you even own a STI?

I figured it up approximately, I've got around 1600 in it not counting mags. It was the m1911 complete assembly guide volume 2 by Walt kuleck. While not geared toward a competition 2011 it was easy to figure out the differences. It was written in plain easy to understand instructions.

No, Mike that's not counting labor. After this I understand why they cost so much to have built now. I've got something unique that I built, did all the work too, and it runs. Is it perfect? Nope, but it's not a collectors item, hopefully I tear the hell out of it over the next few years as I progress as a shooter.

Mike only charged me $1300 for my AI 2011 9mm. He also let me make monthly payments of $50 and take the gun up front. He's a great guy.

J/k, don't call Mike for a $1300 custom 2011.
