I know only one person that has traveled with long guns, and didn't have much problem to europe. Pistols are pretty much verbotten. It depends on the country your travelling to.
Another friend has been on safari in South Africa. Shotguns had to be pump, and long guns had to be bolt action, single shot, or SXS rifles. No pistols allowed.

I'm pretty sure Kurt Miller and Trapr travel to Europe for competitions, so they would be the guru's on this. Hopefully they will check in.

What little I know about this...your gonna end up in contact with the country of arrival's Embassy to make arrangements.

Costa Rica is doable... but you need to get papers filed way in advance. The rest of the world? You won't know till you do some research.

well sprecifically what i would be taking and where i would be going, one case for all three guns. 1 pistol, 1 pump shotgun, 1 ar-15. first stop hungary, second stop slovakia.

Can't comment on the US side of things.
For most European countries you'll need a reason to bring your guns into the country, that could be anything from attending a match, taking training, even taking them to a gunsmith. If you're going to attend a match/training in Hungary/Slovakia, then get in touch with the club and let them send you a letter-of-invitation. Than start the red tape, i.e. get in touch with the local authorities in the host country (best practice is to get in touch with the embassy) and explain them the purpose of your "armed" visit and apply for the necessary permits also inform wrt local customs: CCW, open carry etc are verboten in most countries. Upon entering the country, you'll have to get in touch with customs to declare your weapons. From there one, it's pretty straightforward. If you're visiting a club, than get in touch with them and ask them to assist in the paperwork & contacting the authorities.

If you're travelling between several European countries, you could inform / apply for a European weaponslicense. This allows for free travel between European countries with your weapons and saves you some hassle on the paperwork when travelling from country A to country B. But bear in mind: every country has his specific set of rules & legislation. What is allowed in one country is not allways allowed in its neighbouring country, e.g. overhere in Belgium weaponsmounted lasers are a big NO. Up north in the Netherlands you can slap any laser you want on your firearm. Cans (silencers) are absolutely verboten in Belgium but free for purchase/possesion & mounting on a firearm in Finland. Don't even need that $200 taxstamp ;)

That's the big picture, hope it helps.
