Few times a year the clan gets together and has a shooting competition. 22LR ONLY. Competitions range from shooting specific balloons, tic-tac-toe, , to random numbers on a page, at 25 yard and up to 50 yards. Every bit of it has to be done open sight, no scopes allowed.

My problem is I live in town and have to shoot at a range with a 20 yard max for shooting. That means I'm 5 short of the minimal taget, and 45 yards short of the long shot.

Can anyone give any kind of home grown, my uncle's, friends, 3rd cousin kind of advice to being able to warm up for the competitions?

As it is, I have a zero in at 20 and then try to adjust on the fly for 25 yards, then again at 50. Needless to say this had caused some heartbreaking results on my end. :)

I'm shooting a Ruger 10-22 lr iron sight, so need to figure out how to setup at 25 yards then again at 50 when 20 yards is the max at practice.

Any suggestions or adivce?

Is there no way at all that you can prepare by shooting at a longer range? Where are you located? Surely someone in The Internet has posted some elephant dung about ballistics of generic ~36 grain, 500-round bulk pack ammo out of a Ruger 10-22. Here, I found this in no time: http://www.ruger1022.com/docs/22lrballistics.htm There is a bullet drop blurb at the bottom that is slightly relevant.

.22 rounds are pretty inconsistent when it comes to ballistics tables.
You will have to pick one brand, sight it in, and go from there.
My Nordic upper, and Ruger Mark III Hunter absolutely love the cheap Federal bulk packs. My cousins 10-22 will not shoot them at all.
Go figure.
Shot a .22 fun match this morning, without a single ammo malfunction.

To do a real test, your going to have to find something with some distance.
After our match this morning, with max range of 35 yds, I shot at 100 with a 5 mph cross wind. The wind drift was almost 3".
Drop was almost 3" as well.
CCI mini mags might help with extra velocity, if they will shoot in your gun.
A couple of manufacturers make .22 LR rounds in the 1600 fps range. Again, if they will hold their accuracy in your gun, that would help with the drop issue.
I suspect that windage may be your main issue, as most informal shoots I do are on a creek bank or wheat field terrace. We all know what Okla is famous for.........wind
