Want to clear out/Sell a lot of gear (not firearms)--- am a lifelong outdoorsman and have accumulated fishing/hunting/shooting/camping/boating/snowsports gear that likely will no longer be used, as I have lived well over half my life expectancy. Some I will keep for my grandkids, if/when.

Have been pondering a reasonable way to sell quality gear... sat. morning yard sales and flea markets are mostly non-enthusiasts and therefore cheap hagglers/ lowballers/resellers and the aggravation ain't worth the dollars or effort IMO. Craigslist much the same.
I belong to many outdoor Forums, and their classifieds generally involve shipping all over the country and is often cost-ineffective for both parties(ex. fishing lures, rods, clothing, waders, game calls, etc. and cherry-picking small quantities of same).

The 'shoot n' swap meet' idea discussed here was interesting but I understand not do-able. I feel if I/we could set up some tables and attract like-minded sporting enthusiasts who recognize quality and value, there would be benefit to both, but I don't wish to expend several months of texting/calls/follow-ups/cheats and sat.mornings to do so.

Anyone else wanting to do the same? Any interest in putting something like this together, and how/where?
and "No, I won't send it to you to get rid of it for me! "

Appreciate any suggestions.

If you have several thousand dollars worth I'd recommend hiring an auctioneer to liquidate it through a special sale. One who knows how to correctly advertise it will cause it to bring enough to cover their fee and leave you with fair market value.

How can it be cost ineffective, Have the buyer pay shipping, If they want it bad enough they'll pay it.

I agree with the yard sale and flea markets, Wast of time IMO. Craigslist is doable just set the price and don't budge, I sell on CL a bit and thats how I do it.

what you got?....list some stuff on sites like this...sell it little by little...

Thats what I would do.

got a buddy who goes to all the gun shows in the area and sells

I would pile your stuff up, and work out a deal with him.
make him a good price
let him go deal with packing it up/out/in/back in/back out.

and you are free & clear of all of it,
and he has the opportunity to make some money, and then he can dump the leftovers that do not sell at a surplus store or something.

I will send him a link
if he don't contact you, go to the next gun show, and find someone who has junk like yours, and work out a deal.

it feels good to get rid of stuff that has weighed you down for a long time.

I went to a prepper conference that had a swap meet; it was at a church here in Greenville. I don't know if there is another conference happening anytime soon in SC. Those that are survival minded would probably be interested in your gear.

Appreciate the suggestions, folks. I'll do some more thinking.

What I mean by cost ineffective: say a rod sells for $105 new and I ask $65 in EC; shipping/insurance is $20-25 plus my time packaging; the buyer is now paying nearly same as new and trusting my evaluation of condition and my not ripping him off. I'm not gonna sell it for $40 plus my time/gas to ship--- so the deal falls apart.

If we could meet FTF, he'd be able to handle/ see, cash on the spot, we'd both be happier with less time spent. Agreed, some smaller items don't cost as much for shipping. I've posted numbered trays of lures, say $60 for 20--- then a few buyers each want to cherry-pick 4 or 5, haggle, send me $15 shipped, I net $10 each transaction (??) Not worth it to me.

If there are 5 or 6 of us out there and we could attract 20-30 qualified buyers someplace one morning, seems everybody might benefit. Time and shipping costs are what seem to kill deals IME.

I've bought and sold so much stuff over the internet. I've learned that if you have patience, there will be somebody willing to pay your price and shipping. Even if it only saves them a few bucks. If you want a fast sale, that is when you need to keep the price down.

Maybe we can scrape up the $10 for a table at the jockey lot. We could just agree on a date and time. I guess there are probably other locations as well. Just follow the rules. Actually, I saw a few individuals selling firearms there, don't know if they were supposed to be, though. For sure ammo and accessories, as those are staples if the jockey lot. I generally pick up some stuff there from some old vets.

I'm glad someone else calls it the jockey lot. When my dad remarried when I was 6, my stepmother kept calling it the "flea market;" I had no idea what she was talking about, but I definitely did not want to go somewhere where they sold fleas.
