Tulsa World article on Students at some Oklahoma colleges that will be wearing empty gun holsters to show their support for three legislative measures that would allow for concealed weapons to be carried on school grounds.

If any of you don't know Adrienne O'Reilly, she is a great representative of the cause. She is someone that I would have articulate any gun issue that comes up in the media. Great lady!

This quote from the story really bothers me.

"All the police heard was that a student attempted to kidnap a professor at gunpoint," Pittman said. "Can you imagine if we had concealed carry that day what would've happened? If even one other student had a gun, it would've been a lot harder for the police to identify the student they were looking for."

The person quoted is a conceal carry permit holder who is against campus carry. He is basically saying the only way to tell who the bad guy is by who has the gun! How about this, IT'S THE GUY KIDNAPPING THE PROFESSOR!

What some people fail to understand is that by being armed doesn't require one to intervene on behalf of another. My guns are for 'my defense', not my neighbor's defense. If they want to protect themselves, let them acquire a firearm and take the responsibility to defend themselves as I do myself.

This attitude may sound harsh. But it's the same attitude that I take for whether a person has a job, food or clothes. It's their responsibility. Not mine.

So the armed college student who is in a classroom when a disgrunted failure decides to "hold the professor at gunpoint" (this is known as a 'clue' for the police to determine who's the badguy) has the option not to intervene and let the professor suffer the consequences of not being armed his/herself. Or he could bust a cap and hope to take out the bad guy and be the hero. But is that the purpose of carrying a firearm? In most of my readings of historical documents concerning 'bearing arms', it is mostly always in defense of oneself. Not defending your neighbor. One's personal safety is each person's responsibility. If someone chooses not to carry a firearm for defense, then suffer the consequences when/if SHTF.

I am the NRA Election Volunteer Coordinator for District 2 in Oklahoma and tomorrow myself and two EVC's are going to the Capitol to try to influence the outcome of the passage of the bill. Adrienne is really in the forefront of this movement and is a really nice person besides. I don't know if we will have an impact but we will be trying.

If you get a second while your over on 23rd..... let em know some of us are not impressed with the lack of action-cop out we are getting on open carry.

I hope you kids get campus ccw. I wrote my folks in favor of it.

Resurrecting this to remind folks that this week is the empty holster protest week.

I am, at present, administering my students' final exam and wearing my empty holster. Here's to the Second Amendment: May it someday soon be restored everywhere.
