I appreciate everyone's concerns and I'm glad you feel you can discuss them openly.
first, I want to point out that there are, indeed, anti-spam measures in the initial account creation process.
We chose the question challenge/response. So the spammers can't automate the process the questions are changed periodically.
Spammers must come to the site and personally log in using a real email address or they get deleted.
Spammers on a forum are, sadly, like being caught in the rain. On occasion, in everyone's life, its going to happen. believe it or not spamming an industry unto itself. Having said that if we told you how many "attempts" get rejected you'd realize just how good a job we're doing.
The moderators, EnJay, C Carson, and Midnight Raver, knock out the spammers who do get through in extremely short order.
I handle the backend, programming and server stuff. I received an email from our ISP this morning at 3:45 AM informing me of a concern and I received a thank you from them by 8:AM for resolving the issue so quickly.
Frost handles most of the Administration of the site. He fusses about spammers all the time.
We all work together diligently to maintain a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and a place to grow and encourage the shooting community in South Carolina.
This is actually in our mission statement.
I want to take this time to thank the Moderators for all their hard work and for being here for us.
I am humbled by the way they keep things running so smoothly.
I hope you guys continue to call the Palmetto Shooter's Forum one of your favorite online homes.
Thanx!
