I think it is ugly.....but. I really like the magazine feature..

I also like the thick butt pad...

Steve

I shot my first mosin last week...I really like this stock...then again...I have the archangel stock on my mini 14 and will be putting my sks in a bullpup stock so I am a little weird

SKS in a bullpup? Sounds interesting, guess I'm a little weird too...

Who's the manufacturer for the SKS bullpup stock that you have?

That stock is strange looking but cool. Interesting how they worked out a magazine solution too.

94formulabird, does that bullpup stock still allow for the fixed bayonet on the SKS rifles that still have them? It would be nice to see a picture of one with a stock like that!

Wow, to see that you would be hard pressed to guess it was an SKS before! You're right though, the bayonet is definitely a no-go. On the rifles shown with the bayonet swivel point still on it it has NO clearance room for it.

That is, unless you want the bayonet fixed forward on it all of the time!

Anybody got info on SKS regulations? I thought I heard some stuff in the past about once you take a part off a C&R SKS, that you have to have to make a lot of part changes to make it legal. I could be way off base, so any info is appreciated.

Griff, you are talking about Rule 922r

If your C&R rifle is modified from its original configuration, it will fall under this rule. There are few exceptions such as removing the grenade launcher on the Yugo M59/66 and replacing it with a compensator, making it legal in California.

With 922r, the magic number is 10! The federal government has decided that it is unlawful for your semi-auto rifle or shotgun to have more than 10 imported parts from their select list of 20 parts.

27 C.F.R. 478.89 lists 20 parts:

(1) Frames, receivers, receiver castings, forgings or stampings
(2) Barrels
(3) Barrel extensions
(4) Mounting blocks (trunions)
(5) Muzzle attachments
(6) Bolts
(7) Bolt carriers
(8) Operating rods
(9) Gas pistons
(10) Trigger housings
(11) Triggers
(12) Hammers
(13) Sears
(14) Disconnectors (part of the trigger assembly)
(15) Butt stocks
(16) Pistol grips
(17) Forearms, hand guards
(18) Magazine bodies
(19) Followers
(20) Floorplates

Of these twenty parts, the laws states that you can have NO MORE THAN 10 imported parts on your semi-automatic rifle or shotgun. So removing the bayonet on a Yugo would mean you have to replace. The SKS has 15 of these parts, so you need to replace 5 of them to be 922r complaint. The parts the Yugo M59/66 has are:
1. Receiver
2. Barrel
3. Bolt
4. Bolt carrier
5. Gas piston
6. Trigger housing
7. Trigger
8. Hammer
9. Sear
10. Disconnector
11. Stock
12. Handguard
13. Magazine body
14. Follower
15, Muzzle attachment

Some recommendations for "Sportering" the SKS are:
1) Replace the stock with aftermarket US-made version.
2) Replace the handguard with aftermarket US-made version.
3) Replace the gas piston with a US-made version from Tapco (#SKS6602).
4) Replace the magazine with a 100% US-made magazine, including the magazine body, follower and floorplate. (Replaces two imported parts.)
5) On Yugoslavian Type 59/66 Carbines: Remove the grenade launcher and replace it with a US-made muzzle break (foreign muzzle attachments are counted).
6) Replace the hammer, sear and trigger with US-made versions from Murray?s Gunsmithing.

On a typical SKS Carbine, you will need to replace four parts. On Yugoslavian Type 59/66 Rifle, you will need to replace five parts.

That looks illegal.

Is that a ... *Gasp... a pistol grip! OMG, a removable mag too! I bet that holds more than ten rounds.
