I have been mulling over the idea of a 1911. Has anyone had a chance to spend any time with the Sr1911? If so what are your thoughts about it. I like the way it looks only mods I see would be dropping in a Wilson combat extended slide stop I can't reach normal slide stops on 1911s with out drastically adjusting my grips. Thank folks.

They're supposed to be great pistols if you can find one. They've basically been sold out since Ruger released them; IDK whether that's because they really are a stellar deal for a $700 1911 or because of RUGER and MADE IN AMERICA.

What is STI ?

Everything I have read about them has been real good reviews. I bought a tuarus 1911 shoot it one time and sold it for what i gave for it. It was used jammed three times in 20 minutes one time real bad. I loved shooting it didn't like that It was a two handed operation with the slide release. But it does have me craving another 1911

That MADE IN AMERICA. is also a very strong selling point for me.

Thanks guys.
I checked out the STI website. The Spartan series is about the only thing in my price range. Unless I hold out a little longer. I do like the Spartan IV. How hard is it to change out the slide stop?

Save your dollars if its feasable, no one ever regreted buying quality. I want one but im gonna have to put up with shoooting a glock17 for the next while.

By all means nab an STI. Then stuck it up and swallow hard when your NIB pistol has to go back for work because it chokes on pretty much any ammo you throw at it.

I don't have direct experience with the Ruger, but I've heard good 2nd had accounts. Personally, my next 1911 will be a proven gun not NIB regardless of maker.

I've had the opposite experience. The Trojan in .45 seems to eat everything, even the Semi wadcutters that my C&S tuned gun hesitates on.

I was a little harsh. It's still a raw nerve. The STI's are popular for good reason. Once my Spartan got home I can't find anything it won't eat.

To their credit the tech support was very good, and they turned the gunsmithing in just under 3weeks. I will probably end up with an STI 2011 at some point.

I've had nothing but good luck with the STI's. They are a well made pistol and they work great! The 2011 will spoil you. Dawson Precision Super Tuned mags are the way to go to feed the 2011.
