A little background:

When the hoarding insanity ramped up prices it left me without LPKs for two receivers I was building. I was able to piece together most of the LPKs from Palmetto's parts wall, but after a horrible trigger from one previous kit I had intended to look into alternatives so I skipped the fire control group.

Looking into the options, spending $230 for a Giesselle, no matter how nice, just wasn't happening. Timney and JARD and the others were high-dollar as well. While browsing Midway online, it recommended the ALG trigger groups, and after some research I bought a QMS (Quality Mil-Spec) set for $45 to see what was what.

You'll note this thread has no pictures - that is because the parts are all standard mil-spec parts and look identical to the DPMS, PSA, and Oly parts you can buy. However, the engagement surfaces have all been precision ground and polished.

Now - for a point of reference, my original AR got lucky with it's Olympic LPK and had an excellent trigger. No gritty feel, nice crisp letoff, about 6.5# using a fish scale/trigger pull gauge. Still a bit of creep, but overall a nice trigger for HD and offhand shooting. Besides, I'm shooting 6.8SPC and it's useless after 300 yards anyway :)

The QMS trigger takes everything bad I disliked about the horrible PSA trigger, and dispenses with it. It takes the things I liked about the Oly trigger and makes them better. Pull is about 6#, but very crisp, and no discernible creep. I think the pins are slightly oversized to remove some of the slop. Also, the face of the hammer is polished so the BCG just glides right over.

First time I'll actually get to shoot the thing is probably Schutzenfest, so if you want to see the difference between this one and the Oly (which is now in my slidefire lower) just come up and ask.

Thanks for the review. I've thought about getting an ALG ACT trigger which runs about $65 and I think this convinced me.

I did buy a Geiselle trigger a while back for my SDM rifle...found an SSA-E on sale. Tigerstripe and MCA have shot it. It is definitely worth the money, though. I want a S3G but I'd rather out the $ towards something else.

The ALG QMS and ACT fire control groups are actually both made by Geiselle. They are superb triggers for the money.

My next build is going to be a DMR-style AR-15, its going to use the Geissele Hi-Speed Match Designated Marksman Rifle Trigger. :D

ALG triggers are worth every dime. I am a dealer for them and they will be the standard triggers on all my complete rifles.

I've got several S3G's and I love them, but they are $250 so I can't afford to put one in every rifle. At $60 a piece for the ALG-ACT, it's much more reasonable.

It seems like, from reading the flyers, the only difference is the ACT is not phosphate coated but nickel teflon, and the pull weight is about half a pound less. There might be some technical, proprietary differences, but the flyers don't give that info up.

I still need one more trigger group for my wife's AR.

Could you offer a forum discount on them? If you have a good deal on them I'd rather give my $ to a local firearms business than a major company (even though I generally like Midway). Unfortunately I don't have enough disposable $ that I can afford to do that every time - I have to follow the best $.

Might be enough AR owners on here to even consider a group buy, depending on how many that would take.

The QMS is a standard trigger that has been tuned to eliminate all of the normal grittiness and staging in a stock trigger. The pull weight will still range from 5.5 to around 7.5 pounds. Essentially you can look at it as paying for a top notch gunsmith to do a trigger job plus you get a spare fire control group to keep in your spare parts bin.

The ACT is a standard trigger that has been tuned and nickel-Teflon (a permanent dry lubricant) coated on all thee parts. The springs are selected to give a consistent 5.5 pound pull every time. There is a distinct and firm click on the reset, and the length of pull seems much shorter. It is by far the fastest stock single stage trigger I have ever shot.

Both triggers give you the reliability and durability of a stock trigger, with the feel of a much higher end trigger.

MSRP on the QMS is is $45 and the ACT is $65. This is the price that every dealer I can find sells them at because mark up is so low. I have them at $5 less on my site and unfortunately I cannot price them any lower. Even at a group buy I would have to sell around 125 sets to give a bigger discount.

$5 off and no shipping on a $45 item is actually a pretty good deal, IMHO, even considering tax.

Do you have lowers set up with QMS and ACT in the shop? I'd like to feel the difference between them. Either way, I need one more trigger group.

I do have lowers set up with both the ACT and the QMS. I'm moving to a new location in Mt. Pleasant today. Let me know when you are free and I can arrange to meet you at either the new shop or my location in N. Charleston.
