Ok, I am in the process of buying an FNP-45 Tactical and am going to put a red dot optic on it. For purposes of 3 gun and all the local handgun matches, which size MOA would you all recommend for the red dot? I'm really not sure at what distances are being shot with handguns in 3 gun matches, but the indoor ones are obviously going to be less than 30 yards.

Here is the one I'm leaning towards.... http://www.trijicon.com/na_en/products/product3.php?pid=RM04

Anyone used this before? Any opinions? Thanks.

Red dot on the handgun puts you into open, which means you'll be competing against 3-4 pretty salty guys shooting $5K custom pistols. So I wouldn't recommend it.

But since you asked most open shooters I know use a 6 MOA dot.

I've not used that one, but it is very similar to the burris fast fire. I had a fastfire mounted to my buckmark for steel challenge & it works pretty good. I found it sometimes difficult to pick up the dot as fast as I'd like. I changed it out for a C-More & I like it alot better. One thing to keep in mind, if you use this for uspsa or 3gun it'll put you in the open division with all the space blasters.

i was unaware about the optic throwing it into an open class if I decide to try any matches with it. don't wanna do that yet. i really appreciate the info. i will look into the C-more site also. if i go ahead and get one i will just take the optic off if i decide to try and shoot a match with it. also, i was hoping that the 7 moa dot would be a good size and it seems like it is. thanks!

I know a guy (ME) that has that same RMR sight you posted. He was using it on his rifle set at 1:00. I didn't use it much onthe rifle so I am thinking about melting it into my G17 Open Pistol. That is the MOA size you want for the competiton shooting IMHO. Are you building up an FNP-45 like that suppressed one I saw a few months back in Combat Handguns Magazine?

if so I want to shoot it with the dot on it ASAP.
