Range Volunteering

"6. When I ask for help, I never expect it from any specific individual. We are grown ass men, you might have a little league game or a gramdma in the hospital. I dont know whats going on in your world; I dont expect any excuse or judge.
That's why I'm fully prepared to set up a match my myself if I need to. -Luckily I'm always pleasantly surprised."

Exactly. When you ask for help you have to be prepared to do the entire job yourself. We just planted 100 trees at the range, so down the road, they will help block the north wind in winter matches.
Two of us that started the project brought everything to do it as we had zero reply's for help. Had 5 show up on the day, and it got done within two hours.

We always schedule work projects on Sunday afternoons so personal work days don't typically come into play.

Local weekly matches at my local club are set up right before the match. I am usually there to help with that for any match I shoot. Monthly matches are set up a day ahead. Usually don't have time to do that due to work.

Bigger monthly matches for 3gun that I go to are 1-2 hours away, so I never am able to get to the range a day ahead to help on a Friday since I am working. Universal Shooting Academy has staff that will set up all of the stages. Others have volenteers that come in on Friday to set up. It's almost always the older retired guys, or at Gainesville it will be the younger college kids who don't have class that day. There is no break down at USA, but I always help break down at Gainesville after shooting.

Even at the local weekly matches, it seems like it always the same people setting up the stages. But set up starts at 530 or 6, so most people just can't make it there after work that fast. I live about 10 minutes from my local range, so I can make it in time most of the time.

None of the matches I go offer free match fees to help set up. Range fees are only free or lowered for RO's.

5. I never want to foster any elitism in on or around the gun club or any other shooting venue. that elephant dung is cancer in the shooting community. Whats why I defend against assholes taling elephant dung about IDPA, thats why I play nice with the Cowboy shooters, thats why I usually never badmouth other shooters or instructors (certain cases excepted;))
I was thinking about this today and it occurred to me that my "casual shooters" comment could be construed as elitist. I didn't mean to sound elitist. Interest in guns take many forms, and if people want to shoot 100 rounds slow fire on the weekend then that's fine.

And you NEVER talk elephant dung about Cowboy Action Shooters. That's where all the old guys who build target holders and mow the grass shoot. If they want to build cowboy towns and do High Plains Drifter cosplay then they've earned that.

this is the reason I am kind of phasing out the "setup on Friday, shoot the match free" thing.

Mike Rush just basically spent HOURS and Days fixing up that plate rack for the okc club, we cant possibly repay him in anything other than in thanks.

Youll be on a white sand beach
Mike, what the hell? 11 words with more than one sound. I think I've been tricked.

Oh, thank God. It really is difficult to be smart and sound dumb. Much more so than to be dumb and act smart. Just look at the democrat party. Pseudointellectuals.

Ammo = $$$

In golf, I could always walk away with more balls than I started with.
Just because you miss a lot more them most guys doesn't mean you should pay the help.
