About to send my G35 off for some work:

$80 Dawson magwell
$150 glocktriggers.com Edge trigger
$210 texture and double undercut frame
$40 remove finger grooves
$120 Dawson adjustable sights
$20 extended mag release button
-----------
$620

Slide work is basically like:
$70 side cuts
$70 45 degree muzzle cut
$40 cerakote afterwards
------------------
$180

Well, that's $800. Is this the thing to do? I saw multiple used G34's today that were modded, they were asking $800 for the entire thing. I sold a 1911 to fund this but it will cost twice what I got out of it. I want to do it, but it almost seems like a bad investment, plus I'm not entirely sure that all of these are legal for all sports. I'd be ok for limited USPSA but what about IDPA? Even the grip texture will bump me out of the stock service pistol class, and the side cuts are illegal for everything. Not sure what to do, just want a nice blaster for 3-gun more than anything but local matches are IDPA. I just keep thinking that if I took the money I'd spend on this plus what I could sell the G35 for, I could just about have a 2011. Not even sure if that's the thing to do or not. I have lost a ton of money customizing crap so I'm skeptical that I'm repeating the same financial mistakes.

If IDPA is the sport you'll shoot most, read the rules of the divisions and go from there before you toss money at a gun you wont be able to use in the division you desire.

3-gun is what I will do the most, just don't want to hang myself. I have an FNX-40 that I thought would be better for IDPA but as I get better I may be kicking myself for disqualifying the use of the G35.

I wanted to do a bunch of stuff to the Glock when I got it a while back. I had big plans like you do, and a couple of friends of mine ( even one that sells most of the stuff you list) and they put it to me this way...... Don't spend all that money on a Glock you will still have a 800 dollar Glock!! Put all that money into a 2011. Now I am not telling you to get a 2011 but definitely check out the market. A CZ Shadow can be used for IDPA and it is a all metal gun. You can still get sights, magwell, and some grip/finger grove reduction to your glock, and get it all taken care of right here on boomer and save some money. Get all the goodies from makereadyproshop.com and hit up Matt for the grip work he does a wonderful job. If you are from around here I can show you my gun he has worked on and you can also check out the sights and magwell. Go to some different matches and Handel some different guns to see what you may like. All of this is just my opinion Bottom line is do what makes you happy!!

I'm not real familiar with IDPA rules, but all those mods would be legal for USPSA Limited division.

You mentioned "stock service" which I would imagine is basically the same as production for USPSA and if so, the trigger job and sights are about the only mod you can make.

3 gun you'll be good to go, but I would study the idpa rule book for the pistol only matches.

The CZ Tactical sport is a badass pistol too for less coin than a 2011

Why the slide cuts, muzzle cuts, and cerakote?

I'm starting to think that myself after seeing these used models for $800. I got the gun during the scare so I paid a little too much for it but not too bad, basically $635 plus tax, almost $700. If I put $800 into it I'll have $1,500 in the damn thing. For $1,669 plus FFL fee I could have a stock brand new STI Edge. That's only a $200 difference and if I'm ever done with it, it won't be worth half what I've got in it if I don't do too much crap to it.

Well, the technical version is that I've been told that lightening the slide can help you get faster and help with recoil, and if I cut it, a cerakote job is required.

The reality is that I think Glocks are ugly and I was looking for a way to make it look cooler than it is and the less recoil just sounded nice.

Probably entirely unnecessary to be honest. It's the $620 bill that I'm more concerned with. That seems to be what is necessary to get them race-ready.

How about trying a lighter recoil spring and a slower burning powder?

Sights, put in a lighter connector, stipple it if it's legal. If IDPA is the only pistol game around and you only have this gun, don't ruin it for that game.

You can do the finger bump removal and trigger guard undercut yourself with a dremel and sander wheel. Put some non-slip stair tread tape on the grips and save yourself $250. Put the extended mag release on yourself, install the glockwerx competition spring kit, maybe replace the captured guide rod/spring, and install a zev magwell yourself. Put on some good sights and rock it. You don't need the slide cuts and muzzle cuts for lightening. And if you got it cut you would not have to get it cerakoted.

I think Glocks are sexy...

Or practice to become better.
Yeah, I know, but not everybody takes this advice now do they? No offense, but didn't you just recently start no more than a year ago, and yet also recently bought a new STI Edge just to find out that it didn't help all that much? :) I doubt our mindsets and abilities are much different. Nice toys are fun.

I've seen a custom 2011 with a homemade Dremel job, looked like total ass! I don't know how they jacked it up so bad but it was just horrendous. On an STI at least you can replace the grip separately but with a Glock you're just screwed if you mess it up. Just kind of makes me nervous.

Youre right i did just get one. It initially had an impact on how i did...but alas i was not practicing consistantly....so i stalled out on how much better i was becoming. Its levels beyond the m&p i was running...but again...it can only be so good for so long until my skills topped out. Ive practiced with it more in the last couple of months than i did all year and have improved very noticably. If i could do it all again, id buy the edge before the m&p and practice MORE than i did/have this year. Youre right, not everyone practices like they should...and unfortunately they wont get better. There are plenty of guys out here whoopin my ass running production rigs....ill be damned, they practice more than me. :)

Don't do all that to a G35. Trigger, sights, big ol' mags, and ammo is all you need to campaign one successfully in USPSA limited or 3 gun.
Can't believe it took 12 posts for this to come out.

1) Sights
2) Trigger
3) Mags like mentioned
4) Magwell
5) Grip tape as you see fit.

Done...

Spend all that money on ammo and shoot. My M&P 9Pro is bone stock except for an Accurate Iron trigger job from back when he was working on plastic guns.

That's exactly where I am now. Yeah I already have the G35 but I could at least get most of my money back out of it at this point and invest in an STI. If I go crazy on the build, that immediately flies out the window.
