I have an unopened AR-Restor hydraulic buffer in the classifieds I'll let ya have for $40 if ya want it.
 
That pigtail deal sounds interesting but for that price you could sell your 16" barrel take the $100 you would have spent and get the barrel length you desire.

does the low mass buffer make a big difference without running the low mass bcg?

I'd say no, and you're never going to realize the full potential of both if you don't have an adjustable gas system.

That said, I don't even think lightened guts and an adjustable gas block are that big of a deal.
 
I guess its just like any sport when you hit "the wall" and cant get past it, you start looking for the equipment of training that will get you past the barrier.
