As if a legal, registered gun owner is some sort of sexual predator, a New York paper has published the names and residences of all legal registered gun owners in their area. This information was published to include a map entitled "Where the gun permits are in your area"

Article here:

Map is here:

Personally, I'd like to see a map of where the guns are not, and then lets see if the crime rate in these areas go up.

What an abomination! This is an epic lawsuit waiting to happen. The implications of outing these people brings them into the forefront of harms way. Here are locations of firearms that could be stolen and employed to do harm. Oh, never mind the fact that these citizens could be harmed just to obtain what they have. Dark times upon us.

This has happened several times in states that haven't taken measures to make the information on your permit application private. Unfortunately in many states, government forms you fill out are public information by default. Is SC one of them?

The newspapers fought tooth and nail in Virginia to keep this information public. The only measure we could get passed was to prevent the counties from giving out the database of permit applicants. If the media wanted to know if someone had filled out a permit application, they had to go to the courthouse and look in person. Better but not ideal.

This is one of several reasons why I think permission slips are a bad idea.

In a sense, they already have. Simply go to the houses where no guns are listed.

If it makes oh feel better the reporter and her boss's address and phone numbers and even a Google map of the reporters house has been posted.

They have?

One of the reporters had their house, address and even phone number put on Facebook...And, the OP ask that everyone use the number to call the fool and tell him he is an idiot...

I loved it...

I guess this "free" information did not come from NICS, since
Data stored in the NICS is documented federal data and access to that information is restricted to agencies authorized by the FBI. Extensive measures are taken to ensure the security and integrity of the system information and agency use. The NICS is not to be used to establish a federal firearm registry; information about an inquiry resulting in an allowed transfer is destroyed in accordance with NICS regulations.
