I posted a pic of my new Sig in the "lets see those other autos" thread and was asked to give a review, so here goes.

First let me say I am a newb shooter and have a lot to learn. So take my review with the appropriate grain of salt. :D

I went to a local range yesterday and ran 100 rounds through my new gun to get acquainted with it. The first thing that struck me was the DAO trigger had to be pulled a long way to fire. I got used to it after a few rounds, but it was disconcerting at first. The next thing I noticed is that I was hitting several inches below where I aimed on the target. I seemed to be getting close enough side to side but was consistently low. Again being a newb this may be my bad and not the weapon. One of the employees at the range thought the same thing. The ammo I used was Winchester 180 gr FMJ and I had no problems with the gun cycling rounds in and shells out. It was a little tough to get the last (13th) round in the magazine every time I loaded it. I guess this means it has a good stout spring in it. The only negative about the gun to me is the very long finger guard in front of the trigger. With my trigger finger on the guard after loading a new mag it was tough to reach the slide release with my thumb. Again I could do it but it was awkward for me, maybe it was just poor technique.

I bought the gun at Academy Sports in Greenville, and the price seemed reasonable, but the kit included only one magazine and no holster. They were out of magazines so I am looking for a good place locally to find one or two more, as well as a holster. Suggestions for a place to buy these items as well as types to look at are welcome.

If anyone has any question I'd be glad to answer them.

Thanks,
Nick

That loooooong pull seems to be indicative of the DAO designs. It could also be what is pulling your point of impact down. As you increase tension on your trigger, it will tend to pull the barrel down. The longer the pull, the more likely this will happen until you learn to compensate.

a stout spring in the mag is a good thing. If loading is problematic, find a good mag loader for it. That will compress the spring for you, making it easier to slide the rounds in. I have a CZ-82 and the mags have nice sharp corners that dig into your hand while you press that spring down to get rounds 11 and 12 in there.

And whats up with moving the slide release all the way up toward the front of the dang weapon? I have handled several models lately (Beretta 92fs for example) that you have to turn the gun sideways to hit the release, or use your other hand. I like to do that one handed while the weapon remains pointed at the target..

Still, like all weapons, its a matter of getting used to it. Thanks for the review on your new companion.
