Ive handloaded for 22-250, and barnes 53gr x bullets will do the job. normal factory 22-250 will disintegration by the time it gets 2" deep

I think the best all around bullet for the big 22 cals would be the Sierra 1365 SBT! heck even a good deer bullet in 223. I'd have to double check but I think 39gr H380 was my 250's sweet spot. The old bench rest load was the Sierra 52gr SMK and 38gr H380 BUT like always work up to this load and don't be stupid and blow your rifle up! disclaimer complete. Later,

no way, too thin a jacket, youd have a racquetball size void on the other side of the entry hole and thats it.

Well pretty sure we are going to disagree on this one! that 250 and bullet combo had 14-15 one shot DRT's on whitetails and can't even count the yotes hell loaded some up for Feegee and he even dropped a deer. That 1365 is the Gameking bullet and has a pretty thick jacket compared to the other SP bullets. The bullets I found were all on the other side right at the skin, made a mess of the goodies that keep an animal going! that sir is the truth from the field. Later,

Yes. I set up a beer can of water in front of a gallon jug of water, and shot the beer can. The only thing out the back of the milk jug was fragments, but most of them were in the bottom of the milk jug.

That was with WWB 45 grain running 4200fps according to the factory.
Anything Barnes will take a deer down in a heart beat. Hornady makes a copper jacketed soft point designed for penetration that I've used as well. Keep in mind that only 55 grain and above is legal for deer.

Agree. Game Kings are designed for game. With that speed, the innards don't stand a chance of remaining in their original condition. Pretty much turn into mush.

Its just my opinion, after doing autopsy's on more than a hundred deer shot by myself and while guiding/field dressing deer for lots of kids during youth hunts, as well as visually seeing the results of what a bullet does what to innards, crashing through bone, lateral shots, face on shots, texas heart shots, and just about any combo anybody would want to see.
The 30-06 Sierra BTHP 165 gr game king is the most devastating bullet I've ever seen do damage internally on white tail. It turns the innards into jelly and exits out the other side for complete penetration. Most drop on the spot, or just take a couple of steps. I use nothing else.
Heavier game gets barnes TTSX from the 06.

Coyotes and other varmints don't take much killing. Just about any round will work, but in the 22-250, I load the Hornady VMax. Typically no exit wound.

I for sure don't think the 22-250 is a good choice for 80% of the folk who go into the woods looking for bambi (the deer lol) just pointing out what I have witnessed. I've been sorta lucky and been on several dedrigation hunts and have shot many deer actually why today I don't get too excited about deer season anymore :( Everything from a 22LR up thru a hot rod 284 Win that some 7mm Mag guys would like to duplicate the velocities from ranges right there to a couple hundred yards past what most would call ethical. Once upon a time you only had the choice of about three different manufactures is the reason I'm so big on the Sierra bullet cause that was before you could get Barnes or Berger type bullets and there is nothing wrong with a Barnes bullet! I just could never get them to shoot well. This is what one would call a discussion that no one would win cause it deals with opinions and we all know what they are like lol

Feegee you have a very nice rifle! get you some good glass on that guy and enjoy, I've got a mess of load data if you want some places to start that you know your more than welcome too and I hope no one took anything I may have said in the wrong way just some things I'm rather passionate about. I thought it was a match king, I will defer to your experience, kind sir!

Yea the matchkings in 22 cal are not the best choice for critters you'd want to eat :) they tend to fly apart as you originally stated, a neck shot they work BUT I'd not recommend them at all! They don't even come out and I have more respect for critters I shoot... I want them DRT as there is nothing worse than a suffering animal. Later,
